Almost new tragedy with a child in Paphos

Post by memory man »

Literally at the last minute a tragedy was averted at Tassos Papadopoulos Avenue in Paphos, when a small child was trying to cross it, according to DIKO Paphos deputy Chrysanthos Savvides, who happened to be an eye witness.

Due to the serious event, the deputy resurrected the need to construct an overpass over Tassos Papadopoulos Avenue, since around it there are several schools. Despite that, there is no safe zebra crossing, while hundreds of students cross it on a daily basis.

The deputy expressed the certainty that both the Transport Minister and the Paphos Mayor will investigate his proposal responsibly.

If they do make an overpass I can almost guarantee that lots of children will try to cross the road without using it

A zebra crossing on a dual carriageway would be a death trap. An overpass would at least help.

But then, if they're involved in an accident they cannot put the blame wholly on the driver.
Similar to those who won't walk those few extra steps to use the crossing but prefer to take their chances at another point.
We've all done it at some point in our lives...

There are quite a few on TOTK road. But I believe someone was injured or killed on the one near Lidl

I almost knocked a young girl over when she stepped of the pavement at a corner I was turning at.
She never even looked to see if it was safe and nothing was there or coming.
Then she looked at me as if I was the one to blame!!

They have traffic lights attached though, so technically they are Pelican crossings.

It may not be a laughing matter, but I did stop and think for a second at the subject of this thread. The term "almost new" usually applies to used goods that individuals offer for sale!

Why did you assign that in a quote to me? I never said that. Don't attribute words to people who didn't say them.

Sorry! I did not mean to assign it to anybody. The quote actually came from the topic of the thread rather than to a specific person. I grovel on my knees in front of you. :-)
