Certainly the restaurants and bars here are saying there’s a strong rumour that the government is going to close them down to try to get the number of Covid cases down before May 1st lest Cyprus end up on many countries red list as Spain and Portugal have much lower numbers .
The alternative is to do a the guy , a virologist at The Open University, suggested in The Cyprus Mail and only count the positive cases of people who volunteer to have the test not those who have to because their job demands it. A rather hey this is Cyprus solution .

This is another classic example of “we're stronger together” that isn’t necessarily working. They have looked at the rules, decided they’re not clear and trying to make a point. Fair enough, this is their choice.

I have spoken to two bar / taverna owners this weekend who, at the end of last week asked the CTO to visit them, and they have been open all weekend with people sat inside and still complying the rules as confirmed by the CTO and a subsequent visit from the police.

Most of the businesses I frequent have been busy ensuring they do comply with the regulations - no fuss, just getting on with it.
Better off than before 16 March as they still offer take away and deliveries as well as now being able to accommodate people on site.

In the meantime people who want to go out today for a meal or beverage will just go to those places that are open.
