On my FB feed today.... it gave me a smile and reminded me of the trips we took back to see my parents and explains now why the Cypriot folks on our flight always had the biggest suitcases:

The Cypriot Suitcase.... do you take stuff "home" for family?

In the old days, I always brought a few packs of Cypriot Smoked Back Bacon and Lounza back with me in my suitcase, from Paps or E+H. Yummy!

Gone but not forgotten...

Hello, Paphos Life community. Newbie here.
I do not reside in Cyprus but we do spend holidays there twice each year plus we have many friends there.
Take stuff "home"? Yes indeed but with us it works both ways.
Our grandchildren just love presents from Jumbos. They always look forward to opening a new suprise especially when it is a book with Greek writing. They take them to show and tell in school.
We have returned with lamps from Kirenia and also a rug. We always pick up some Christmas baubles.
We also have to bring stuff "in" as well. Proper smoked bacon and sausages, fahita sauce mixes and chocolate treats are usual.

Back in the early 70th there were not any regulations about weight, bottles etc so I had with every trip back extra 20 kg or so with nice
pottery (wine carafe, wine goblets, vases,) embroidery (Lefkaritika), Brandy, Halloumi, Hiromeri, Jaffa Oranges from Morphou, melons...
as I was falling in love with Cyprus. It was quite complicated the transfer from Kyrenia in a convoy with the UN towards Nicosia airport.

Remember bringing fire lighter to Paphos after the war 1976 when Kato Paphos just started. There was not even a proper road to the Tombs of the Kings but the first Kiosks started waiting for some business. So they asked me to bring as much as I can which I did. Can't remember the price I paid at Metro but I sold them for 1 CyP each and financed my flight with it bringing 500 pieces....I wonder how much they were asking at the Kiosk...
