SOS TV
Re: SOS TV
I can remember when we first came over paying over CY1000 for the 3 metre satellite dish which we all knew was illegal and that it may stop at any time but the years went on and we got complacent and then of course the satellite changed and the dishes were useless.
To me it is a ridiculous situation that you cannot receive UK SKY tv legally in Cyprus but you can't and eventually I believe that the providers will get closed down as Hudswell says it is not just Cyprus but other EU countries working together to stop this and after some success I don't believe they are going to stop. It will be interesting to see how harshly( or not as the case may be) those who have been arrested will be dealt with. It may be that the penalty will be extremely severe as a deterrent?
And Lloyd they are not entrepreneurs unfortunately they are criminals!

Yet you admit you happily watched illegal tv through your dish...bit hypocritical ?Poppy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2018 10:23 pm I can remember when we first came over paying over CY1000 for the 3 metre satellite dish which we all knew was illegal and that it may stop at any time but the years went on and we got complacent and then of course the satellite changed and the dishes were useless.

Re: SOS TV
I think the lesson to be learned is to buy a factory box, or get the existing box factory defaulted -and only use a open supplier.
After all, how long will the new suppliers last? A Week, Month, 6 months?
At least with the knowledge you can change providers, in the "whack a mole" game you will always be a winner.
have in mind all the re-sellers of the previous providers will be on the radar.

Re: SOS TV
Not hypocritical at all WHL. At no time have I implied that any of you viewers are doing what I would not have done and yes when I was in Cyprus I too had a Mag Box and a provider after the demise of the dish.
What I am saying is like it or not the people who are making the millions from this are criminals and it Is a ridiculous situation that Sky tv cannot be obtained legally.
As I have said to you on various occasions,if my posts annoy you so much then just block me - I really don't mind!

Re: SOS TV
Forgive my small-brain take on this.
Isn't there a model here, potentially ?
We have proven demand (aka the British expat community, evidenced by both the take up of tv, and also the uk papers printed in Cyprus)
We have offshore suppliers capable of providing the service required
We have a National Service Supplier and Network - CYTA
Is it not conceivable that there could be a revenue- share agreement between an offshore ( UK ?) supplier and Cyta?
It seems to me like a win-win situation. Or am I being thick
This would be transparent, legal and supported. Of course it would have to be subscription based. But isn't it that already??
Regards
CL

It is ILLEGAL to watch UK tv, including FTV anywhere but the UK. There is NO licence to distribute BBC anywhere. FilmOn and TV Catchup are as illegal as the IPTV companies. They charge either through subscriptions or adverts.
Even some paid services sold legally in the UK, such as from Amazon are illegal to watch outside the UK.
So, your choice, if you’re you want UK TV and especially BBC channels, is break the law, either through paying a VPN company, a streaming company or whatever. All certain shades of black, but still not white.
Re: SOS TV
We are with SOS and still no TV this morning.
Hope it comes back today as getting fed up now as a lot of our friends have still got everything and not lost anything at all.

People, please can you cut out the bun fights. Nobody cares whether person A thinks person B is a hypocrite or a criminal. People want to discuss the situation of their TV service.

Re: SOS TV
You talk sense, the main problem is the showing of Football, TV company's pay Billions to show Premiere league football, and are strictly controlled as to where they can transmit too, so company's like Sky cannot have a tie up with Cyta etc... My opinion, the Cyprus Police will be pressured to clamp down on people selling payed subscription services here...its very easy for them, because Cyprus is a small place and its easy for the Police to arrest these people, your best bet is to get an android?kodi box, and pay for an overseas subscription, this can be done on a one month/six month/yearly..google its all there.Cheshire Lad wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2018 11:31 pm Forgive my small-brain take on this.

I believe you can get an 'overseas subscription' for a Mag Box..WHL wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2018 8:59 amYou talk sense, the main problem is the showing of Football, TV company's pay Billions to show Premiere league football, and are strictly controlled as to where they can transmit too, so company's like Sky cannot have a tie up with Cyta etc... Re: SOS TV
But I wonder if making the switch to another provider with mean starting a payment again... We have only recently paid..
Trev..
Re: SOS TV
Tremigirl, our neighbours are with the same company, live in Tremi as do I, they have their TV back but without Sky which they never use, but we still have no service, different provider, also told 72 hours, about. Waiting game I think.
Re: SOS TV
Why would you even contemplate paying more good money after bad to another dodgy supplier?
If you've got spare cash lying around I could suggest several local deserving charities who could put it to good use....
If you must have UK TV reception why not follow Hudswell's advice?
Amos.
Re: SOS TV
Why not just take out a one month sub on another supplier , then if you are not happy or your other supplier comes back any time soon you have not lost much ? I only pay 6€ a month to mine . It is easy to change on a mag box .
Re: SOS TV
" It is easy to change on a Mag Box" would be my major problem, ha ha.. I will see what happens in the next few days. We were particularly happy with the full package that we had..

Re: SOS TV
I am with you Trevnhil, will wait a few days more in the hope that this might get back to normal, happy with the full package, it was the best one we tried, we pay monthly because of the risk of this very event happening.
