The other thing that I maybe should have said is, do I know more about this than I am currently able to say? Yes!

Also HiC, they were aware of dash cams and one of them has one. What amazed them was the quality of the footage on mine. That is why they asked about them.

Ought you to share the make/model/shop of your dash-cam? :)
Not saying that mine is the best one out there but, for the money, the image is stunning and is way better than previous ones that I have had.

This is where I got it!

This is mine from the night in question, at the point of impact. You can see that I am on the grass!

Thanks for the ongoing updates, Band! Based on your original incident description (where you were coming from [Tala Rugby] and heading back to [Kissonerga] and drunken arsehole was coming towards you at 16:30, slaloming home to lower Tala (uphill?)- then after looking at the map, I agree with others in this thread.

I bet his haunt is in Kissonerga (or possibly Chloraka) where he meets up with others of his ilk, having negotiated an "I'm a resident and want a discount to drink here every afternoon" deal with the bar owner...

Maybe after a few hours of unconsiousness back at his lower Tala apartment, he manages to stagger / crawl / drive up to Marios for the 10pm to 2am session, who knows? Wouldn't surprise me in the least; I've come across many such ex-pats on my numerous visits.

Band, I am really glad that everything has worked out alight.

Just a pity that you cannot name and shame. It would be interesting to see the guys face posted all over facebook.

As an aside, did you know that there is a local name and shame Facebook group? There is also a parking like a tw*t in Cyprus Facebook group as well.

I must admit that since being informed that dash cam evidence is inadmissable in a Cypriot court I've always thought them a waste of time, but after hearing Bands experience it's made me think again. Even if the evidence doesn't lead to a conviction the footage alone may be enough to convince somebody to admit liability. Well done!

His karma will arrive soon in one form or another. What goes round, comes round...

In Band's night time dashcam shot, you can clearly see him static on the grass verge. But hang on, there's a STOP sign in the photo ahead of Band. Suggesting a main road intersection, with drunken low-life driving his car up from the right, then drunkenly failing to make the left turn into the side road where Band is approaching the T Junction.

Where the road ends behind me in that shot is the Tala rugby/football ground. The junction ahead of me is the right turn to Kissonerga and left back into Tala. I couldn't see which direction he came from.

Well, the way he smacked into your static offside, Band, the laws of Physics dictate that he was most likely to have been driving uphill from Kissonerga, and failed to make the left turn, thereby smashing into you...

If coming down from Tala and failing to make the right turn properly, the drunken twit would likely have rolled his blue Suzuki Swift over a barrier and into a ravine, the opposite side of the road to you, surely?

Go on, build my hopes up why don't you! ;)

It reminds me of the time, many years ago, when a couple of teenage idiots stole my Vauxhall Cavalier SRi130 from outside my house and ended up failing to make a corner and ploughed it through a fence and into a field. I had to fill in the insurance claim form and got to the question that asked "was anyone hurt in the accident" and I just put "hopefully"!

With the amount of understeer dished out by most powerful Vauxhalls, I'm amazed it didn't fall into a field on every corner 😉

Update time.

The car has gone in for repair this morning, so that side of it is sorted.

I have also just been to have a chat with the nice man that hit me at the place where he volunteers (thanks to the person who passed on that nugget of information). As I suspected he didn't even recognise me! I introduced myself to him and asked him why he was driving when he was that drunk. He says that he doesn't usually drive like that, but I guess that we all need to make our own judgement on that one.

I told him that what really upset me were the implications if it had been someone on a scooter, rather than my Pajero. I also asked him to think about what he did and to bear in mind next time he probably won't be so lucky.

A number of members of this site do know this man and he also knows exactly what he did, so hopefully he will reflect on what he did and think twice before doing it again.

I guess the matter is now concluded.

Thanks again all for your help and support.

You know, I was hoping that nobody was going to ask that!

No, so far as I know, he is not being prosecuted for anything.

I will repeat what I was told, without additional comment. You may form your own conclusions.

1. If an accident involves minor damage, such as scrapes down the side, neither driver will be prosecuted for dangerous or careless driving.

2. If a driver fails to stop after an accident they have 24 hours to report it. Because I caught up with him it doesn't count as failure to stop.

3. Not related to this, but still of possible interest, the police are awaiting delivery of average speed cameras next year!

So it appears that the outcome is exactly as I predicted, no surprise there.
I'm sorry but I don't feel this should be the end of the matter, this scumbag should be named and the footage of the incident should be released. If this individual feels that there are no consequences for his actions there is every chance that he will do it again and who knows what the outcome will be next time.
Band, I understand that you may feel you don't want go any further with this but I believe that as a society we have a collective responsibility to try and prevent people like this from just carrying on until they kill somebody.

Regarding your earlier post: Why should Police be watching bars where ex=pats and others are drinking, what Law are they breaking, what crime are they committing. Were they sitting in cars drinking?

I think this guy should be named and shamed, he has admitted to you he was drunk....may be what is needed for him and others to think before getting behind the wheel in future.

Band has described the car, its not a common car in that colour, so everyone in the area who know of this accident will eventually spot him and know what he looks like. Band has spoken to him, well done, and the driver now knows that he is known.
I spotted the car yesterday, but the driver wasn't in it. The police are taking no action, I think it is right that Band says no more on the subject.
