Paphos General Hospital today
Re: Paphos General Hospital today
Any rumour you have heard/seen about only registering to see a GP between 06-00 and 08-00 is TOTAL RUBBISH ...
Or was 4 days ago..
Just over a week ago a member wrote on this very thread.......
" Both of us at General today.
Arrived about 10.30am, got parked easily at front
car park.
Only about 6 - 8 in front of us at registration.
Spent about 10 -15 mins with doctor, who wrote
repeat prescripts.
Collected the prescripts from pharmacy, and left car park about 11.15am.
Same for us re. blood tests. About 8-00 - 8-30.
Always seems to be relatively clear. "

Re: Paphos General Hospital today
Beware when seeing a GP now at the General.I waited three hours for a repeat prescription yesterday,I was with the GP three minutes!GP told me they are desperately short of doctors and is not going to change too soon(I go every 4 months).
My wife had an appointment in the fracture clinic at 12 noon on Tuesday,so we got to the General at 10am to see a GP for tablets, save coming back another day,she was turned away at registration, told no GPs available and come back tomorrow!

Re: Paphos General Hospital today
It is not just the time seeing a General hospital GP against the money to see a private GP that matters..
If you see a private GP for €35 you then have to get you medications from a private pharmacist... The cost there can easily be around €50 or more.
Many people cannot afford to spend €85 plus, instead of using the GP's at the hospitals or the villages

I would say yes to both questions.. But stand to be corrected.. If she paid €6 I assume it was a consultant she saw.. If so I am surprised he did not tell her to make an appointment..

I assume she will have to see him again to find the results, but just whether she can turn up at the doctors door, I don't know the answer there

Re: Paphos General Hospital today
We went to hospital today after attending registration on Friday, when we were told the Dr MOH wanted to see for results was not there and neither was the dermatologist. "Come back Monday" We arrived at registration around 9.15a.m. Doctors list full! "Come back tomorrow". I made appt for dermatologist. She saw 2 people and disappeared for an hour. No18 had gone in. There was 19, 20 (me)and 21 waiting. In the meantime, No 17, arrived, followed by 3 and then 12! Number 3 said she had her ticket because she had called on Friday and the dermotologist wasn't there. I said we called on Friday too! She went silent, so I presume they gave her a ticket for today on Friday! It's easy to see why you can go at 5.30 a.m. and still be no 5! , and why they are full, so quickly! It was packed today with queues everywhere and car park overflowing!
Re: Paphos General Hospital today
It is a shame that the GP's can't or don't give prescriptions for 6 months.. One of the consultants I see writes me two prescriptions in my book, each for 3 months.. After 3 months have passed I just have to pay the €6 fee at the registration desk, and then go to the pharmacy for my second lot of 3 months supply of tablets..

Re: Paphos General Hospital today
As my original post, there is a problem with the lack of GPs at the General, for whatever reason, it is a worry that you cannot even get a ticket to see any GP, not sure at all what is going on apart from the fact it is getting seriously hard to see a General Practioner even if you get there so early..
I did get two lots of prescriptions on my last visit, that will be for four months supply, it would make sense to get the admin to hand over prescriptions rather than put the GP under pressure, why do they not do this? If you really need to see a GP I wish you well.
At the moment I feel the Hospital system is falling apart.

Re: Paphos General Hospital today
I expect that after the significant cut in pay a few years ago some Dr's and other staff have left to go private or work abroad.
At the time of the pay cuts I remember some people complaining about how they had to pay a few Euros to see a Dr at the general and pay for prescriptions. Now the chickens have come home to roost and it looks like the higher charges need to be brought in asap.

Re: Paphos General Hospital today
A persons health could change allot for good/bad in six months, that's why they need to keep a check on peoples need/non need for the same medication.trevnhil wrote: ↑Mon Oct 22, 2018 8:51 pm It is a shame that the GP's can't or don't give prescriptions for 6 months.. Re: Paphos General Hospital today
Of course a persons health could change. But the same goes for us who are seeing consultants and not GP's I was told that if I felt the need to see someone during the 6 months, call in to A&E.. I think the Doctor or consultant would be the people to trust in this scenario...

Re: Paphos General Hospital today
WHL.
I'm sure you will not get any better attention with your chosen GP, I am on blood pressure drugs and he has never even offered to be given a test for BP, this includes the several GPs I have seen at the Hospital in 18 years, I do my own diabetic blood test daily, not that they are even interested in those results, if you ask they will test your blood pressure but they do not have the facilities to test your Glucose levels, really this is very poor system, now it is so difficult to even see a GP. I would use a private GP now, apart from when I need my subscriptions as for me they are too costly, to get those I will have to go through the same routine as everyone else has to endure.
I know those who really need Medical attention say they had a good treatment, but for day to day help it is getting hopeless down there. And why many return to the UK for a decent NHS service, what ever you think of that.

Re: Paphos General Hospital today
The new national health service will soon be here and with it, I hope, access to more doctors, clinics and medical facilities which should ease the current burden. It is clearly much needed.

Re: Paphos General Hospital today
Morning Jeanne we all hope this is the case, but honestly, where are they going to find that extra GPs?
Paphos need a new hospital as the General is overrun and too busy at this moment in time, this will not happen of course in our time here sadly.

Re: Paphos General Hospital today
One thing that would help both sides of the equation would be to allow private GP's to write prescriptions in the prescription books we all have.. Then for €35 or so we could see a private GP but take the prescription book to the pharmacy at the general..

Re: Paphos General Hospital today
What does not help matters either is they go for a coffee break about 10 am,no matter how many people are waiting(forty mins when I was there last week).Darrow, this is where your dermatologist "disappeared" to!
Shame really because the system was pretty good.

Re: Paphos General Hospital today
Paphos Hospital is an absolute disgrace! It is hard to believe how filthy they allow it to be and so badly maintained whilst relatively modern. Nicosia and Limassol Hospitals are far superior so why has Paphos been allowed to deteriorate so badly?
Re: Paphos General Hospital today
I bumped into the lovely Dr Nicos Panayides last week. He is sorely missed at the general. Said he is really enjoying his new job at the Ministry of Health.
