There was a sign (haven't checked recently but it may be covered by foliage). The entrance to the PO car park is on the right side of the street as you turn left after the PO. The parking for the supermarket is in front of the supermarket itself. I was directed there by the supermarket owner after I tried to park in front of his shop!

Hi
As I have mentioned before, the official car park for the Anavargos post office is opposite the po box,s,there is now a financial company that now occupies the 1st floor offices of the post office and its employees cars now occupy the car park that should be for the post office customers, hence why it is always full.

I did wonder why it was as you rightly said always full. So if that one is used by the buildings employee's, and the other on is for the Kiosk, then it is no wonder that customers just park in the street..

Contrary to what cerain others have posted, I don’t think its a problem parking in the carpark by the supermarket. I don’t park in front of the shops, but park in the part which is close to the PO. Never had a problem. But heh what do I know!

This morning I had just parked in front of the Elados Rd Alpha Bank. Suddenly 3 jobsworths( sorry traffc mafia) appeared from no where to threaten me none to politely with a parking ticket. One even swooped right in front of my car trying to stop me parking there inside the single yellow line. I was frightened by the mans inimidating manner. Suddenly out from the bank came one of the senior mamagers who must have been watching. He asked me why I was there, I said I was just intending to use the cash machine.I don’t know what he said to the traffic jobsworth but the man gave him and me a surly look before climbing back on his scooter and all 3 buzzed off. The manager told me not to worry I could park there. Which is where bank customers always have parked for years.
So much for these traffc cops, badly trained, bad mannered. Yes, there is some very poor parking along Mesogi/Ellados Rd, but these traffic cops need to learn when and where to issue parking tickets instead of trying to target people parking legitimately- because it was easier.

As you say Dee, there are a lot worse example of poor / bad parking than outside that bank..

That is where I have always stopped when using the cash machine
Perhaps it would be helpful if Alpha bank put some sort of notice outside the Bank to that effect. I will raise it next time I go-perhaps if a few of us do something might happen.

Surely the single yellow line means you can't park there?

This is what the highway code says about a single yellow line:

10.5 Continuous yellow line
Marks the limit of the roads surface for use. In built up areas it also means absolute parking prohibition.

So, those "jobsworths" were just doing their job, and enforcing the law, while the bank manager was in the wrong.

No, Dominic,
Must disagree with you. If people park correctly there is sufficient room to park between the bank steps and the yellow line, without going over it. As somone else posted it is where bank customers always park. There isn’t anywhere else as there are no public car parks on that part of Mesoyi Ave and Alpha Bank doesn’t have its own car park.

Do you mean you parked between the bank and the line? Well according to the code, it could mean you had gone beyond the limit of the road's surface for use, couldn't it? Unless the area between the bank and the line isn't road. It would all depend on who owned the land I guess. If it was still road, then parking on either side of a single line isn't allowed.

That's how I read it, anyway.

Following your argument Dominic that would mean that parking along the whole length of Ellados/Mesogi Rd would be illegal. It clearly can’t be so. I think that the single yellow line actually marks the edge of the road, so parking outside that is thought to be OK. As I said before there are few places here where there is any off road parking. There is the large area of unsurfaced ground with a few trees on it near to Kolios where I parked yesterday while going to Kolios, but the surface is so uneven you really need a 4x4 to use it!
Who does that land belong to and could one get a parking ticket for using it?
The whole situation re parking is a bit of a nightmare!

You certainly shouldn't get a ticket for parking in that area of land by Kolios. No way could that be classed as part of the road, by anybody's definition.

On the odd occasion I use the Alpha Bank, I park either in the Sklavenitis car park or Garden of Eden as I usually shop in either establishment afterwards.

Given that that road is a dead end it is fairly understandable, assuming they are only checking their mailbox.

Photograph looks as if that is the T-junction where the main road is going up from the roundabout, past the PO towards Homemarket/International School in which case the cars are parked on the side road which is not a dead end. Often use it to avoid the roundabout.

Definitely not a dead end, you can get that way to the school, or left down to the traffic lights.

My mistake, I thought it was the road behind the post office. I can see now it is the one between the post office and Pitstop .

Lloyd- the sign at the entry to this Mandria car park clearly shows that twin rear axle HGVs are prohibited.

I don't think the blue Bedford TK truck shown in your photo quite matches that description, as it only has a single rear axle. Making it just a larger version of a single cab Toyota pick-up...

Cheers- AL ;)
