When living abroad, you will have to exchange your driving licence for a local one:
........
after 2 years of usual residence, if you have a driving licence valid for life (only if required by the country where you live)
As my German license is valid for life (without health tests except for the truck license part) it´s of interest to me whether Cyprus requires that I exchange it for a Cypriot one. Do you happen to know whether Cyprus does?
Jeba, you really need to enquire at one of the Citizens Centres. You need you make sure that the 'no expiry date' in Germany is accepted over here in Cyprus...
I don’t know for sure jeba but as trevnhil says go to one of the CSC’s and ask the question ......... but I would expect that once you exchanged your licence for a Cypriot one then I would expect you would be subject to Cypriot laws and regulations which in theory should be the same as in Germany which should apply EU wide really!
I don't think the rules governing Driving licences are uniform throughout the EU. Each county is free to have their own rules. ie medical in Cyprus for over 70's as an example..
It is in Cyprus.. And this is why my advice to Jeba is to go and seek out the CORRECT procedure / rules at the MOT or the Citizens office, instead of relying on second hand advice on the Forum
I agree with Austin7, I too think many people in the UK simply tick the box that asks are you medically fit to drive..
However here in Cyprus you have to have a medical to take a form completed by a doctor showing you are fit to drive.. I have just had my 4th medical for a driving licence this week...
I do believe in the UK though that if you have a serious condition that affects your ability to drive, whatever age you are, your Doctor or Consultant is obliged to advise the DVLA.
Not if it affects all the Cypriots living in the UK, and there are far more of them than UK expats living in Cyprus. So I don't think for one moment that Cyprus will implement any EU-led measures that do that.
Of course, if the UK try and boot out all the Cypriot expats then all bets are off, but that isn't going to happen either.
