Look, myself and my wife are "aliens" and we had to have private health insurance to be allowed to reside here as retired persons.
That was followed by the yellow slip process - all time-consuming but straightforward.
After Brexit I do not know what will happen to British retirees living here, I guess they will be aliens like us.
Those of them not registered - much trouble for them I suspect at the time.

Re: Cypriot ID Card
Thank you Hudswell. As an alien and not a British or a EU Citizen I was not aware of the details as so well explained by you.Hudswell wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2017 12:02 pm Amos, as a "younger" UK Expat retiree here in Cyprus, I too have to have private medical insurance and have no right to the Cypriot Medical System and of course pay Cypriot tax and have a yellow slip....it is my belief, for retirees anyway, little will change in Cyprus...there may be some additional hoops to jump, through but reciprocal arrangements remain in place between Cyprus and the UK, contrary to the belief of some, the EU is not all powerful. It will probably impact on the likes of HIC, who run their own business...as such he of course has a vested interest to remain in the EU...his option is simple, apply, for Cypriot citizenship...although again I doubt if the Cypriot Authorities will be in any hurry to damage its economy by stopping such enterprises and a solution will be forthcoming. The UK and Cyprus are both Soverign states and are able to agree between themselves the terms and conditions of who and how its citizens are treated. Cyprus has a long tradition of employing Phillapinos and other non EU workers in the country....nothing at all to do with the EU....it just pleases those that would wish to remain in the EU to spread as much doom and gloom as possible....both HIC and WHL are past masters....And you are probably correct, if you are a UK Expat residing in Cyprus full time and have not gone through the Cypriot, note Cypriot, not EU, registration procedures then indeed there may be trouble ahead.
I note the distinction of Cyprus Registration cf. EU Registration.
For sure WE went through Cyprus Registration.
Those British who have chosen to ignore the Cyprus Registration requirements in order to get free health care using their EU Health Cards, avoid paying tax here, and keep on claiming UK Welfare Benefits to which they are not entitled, deserve all that is coming to them.

Re: Cypriot ID Card
we arrived in Cyprus in 2009. We have yellow slips, Cypriot I.D. cards, Bus passes and pay tax here, including tax on our U.K. rental rather than in U.K.
our I.D. cards expire 2019 but we were in the Ciizens help centre a while back and a British woman was loudly telling her friend whom she has just met in there, that she had just bought a new I.D. card. I think it cost about €39, she said.

Re: Cypriot ID Card
I never remember having to BUY an I D card... Maybe a small fee was charged, but I would have remembered a large amount like that.. I think.

Re: Cypriot ID Card
people not declaring tax will be in hot water under the exchange of information act which obliges countries to inform each other on movements of individuals monies. that's why it is such a rave when you try and move a large amount. they are looking for money laundering.. so people playing the game of moving from country to country and pretending they are paying tax in the other, will get found out. the fines make it not at all worthwhile! As for the U.K. citizens being treated differently after Brexit, it remains to be seen. President Anastasiades declared nothing will change for Cypriot ex pats, but we know it is not entirely up to him, and P.M. May has reiterated the same message. let's not worry when we don't need to. wait and see.
Re: Cypriot ID Card
Trev, we didn't pay much for ours but I got the impression that this was expensive because it is an option, not a neccesity. it was fairly recent, since they decided to scrap them for aliens.
Re: Cypriot ID Card
Oh, I see.. They are available, if you pay.
I still have mine but my wife lost hers when her purse was stolen a few years back. I double we will be paying that sort of amount for a new one

Re: Cypriot ID Card
I got my Cyprus ID card in 2005 at a cost of CYP 5.
Valid for 10 years until 2015. ( yes I know it's expired )
I still carry it with me.
Here's what WIKI says about this.............
Civil Registry and Migration Department announced in 2011 that the Ministry of Interior was at that time looking at introducing a new type of card to replace the troublesome non-national Cyprus ID card. It will be called a residence card and will look similar to an ID card

Yes, I also was charged Cyp £5 when I applied for my ID card probably in 2004. It was valid for 10 years but still seems to be acceptable as proof of my identity when used in Cyprus.
I hadn't heard of any plans by authorities to issue us with residents cards, but it would make more sense than the present yellow slip!

Re: Cypriot ID Card
Brussels, we had permission to pay our rental tax here in Cyprus. We do have to declare it on our U.K. tax returns though although we don't pay any tax there. We also have some accounts that we are charged tax on the interest. The HMRC said it was more expensive to alter the records, just to declare it on our returns what we have paid, it is immediately refunded. We have done this for a number of years with no problems. It was their suggestion.Hudswell wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2017 12:00 pm Interesting that you say you pay tax on your UK rental property in Cyprus....I have always been advised that it is law to pay the tax to the UK tax authorities....yes it is declared in Cyprus but you still have to submit a UK tax return (Self Assessment) and pay any tax due to HMRC.darrow wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2017 9:45 am we arrived in Cyprus in 2009.
