Roughly what sort of local time was that please, Ian?

An 'orangey' Moon is not unusual just after Moonrise, when it is just above the horizon. As it's light is passing to us through more of Earth's atmosphere (obliquely) than when it climbs higher into the night sky.

Particularly if there's a lot of dust in the atmosphere over your region. When the atmosphere is dust-free, the Moon is typically just less bright whilst still low in the sky, with no orange effect.
