I have been having trouble for a while and have installed Wunderground although it is a bit too "fussy" for me. I just like the plain facts.

you want to go to the shore and get a strip of seaweed. Hang outside your window.

If it is hot - it's sunny
if it's solid - it's freezing
If it's wet - it's raining
If it's moving - it's windy

tells you all you need to know.

William Morris I have always known I am special but even I can't see the weather in Paphos from my window in Christchurch. (10 degrees and murky if you are interested 😊).

Why would you want to see Paphos weather if you are in NZ or, maybe, Hampshire??

No, I am not interested.

All weather forecasts are massively unpredictable.

If it is Winter you can rely on some cold, wet days and in Summer some warm days.

What else do you need to know?

Not true. Modern forecasts can be very good, but you have to understand how they work. Firstly, the time scale. As a weather front advances, it is possible that its progress can speed up or slow down, meaning that forecast rain can arrive early or late. If it is within 24 h, it is usually pretty good. Example: yesterday morning, my forecast predicted rain after midnight. It started at 00:25! Secondly, the longer the interval, the greater the tolerance. 2 days are usually reasonably good. 5 days are often iffy. More than 5 days starts to be close to silly. (BBC and Met Office rarely go beyond 5 days and even 3-5 days are often in the conditional tense, despite super-computing). Thirdly, most weather forecasts cover wide areas ('The South coast will be windy, but rain may fall in the mountains but it could be sunny in the central plain and around Nicosia. Temperatures will be 25-30° in the South and East, 18-25° in the mountains and 30-35° in the Mesaoria but Nicosia may reach 38°C') but that does not help for the towns/villages where they would be useful for farmers etc. Fourthly, area-specialised forecasts can be more accurate. For example, I specify the area covered by my forecasts, to within a few km. Fifthly, even the fact that forecasts (including mine) all use the same data published on the Internet, using a 20 km grid and 25 altitudes plus data from local stations (I have 3 weather stations), we can all make the occasional total boo-boo, including the Met Office!

We had no thunder or lightning forecast for today early morning. But our dog and the thunder and flashing light outside, told me otherwise.. :-(

William Morris. I don't know you and am wondering why you need to be so rude to me. Please don't read my post if you are not interested.

Happy New Year to everyone.
