Personally, I’m pleased. Hunting needs to be strictly regulated and the police and the Game Conesrvation Dept needs to keep an eye on all these hunters every hunting day... only by catching those who commit violations of the rules and punishing them will the others take note.

Totally agree Dee, these hunters get away with far too much, at the cost of the birds and animals they supposedley 'hunt'. Let alone the birds and animals they are NOT supposed to hunt! As well as each other, miscellaneous property, road signs,..........
In any other country this would be a joke. A bit like "hunting" in the UK.

I agree with what you say about hunting in Cyprus. But please don’t confuse it with field sports and hunting in the UK which are all well regulated. Shooting and Shooting syndicates in the UK are totally different to the rabble that invade the countryside here on Weds and Sundays! In the UK only game birds are shot, like Pheasants, Grouse, and speciic species, not everything which flies..or domestic pets, road signs etc.

Ask the Hen Harriers how they feel about the precious Grouse shooting estates and their gamekeepers!Kili01 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 12, 2018 8:48 pm I agree with what you say about hunting in Cyprus. I agree Shane. And sorry Dee many many hunts are not regulated. I recently saw a video of a hunt where demonstrators doing nothing but shouting at the huntsmen/women were roundly whipped by one of said women whilst behind her the hounds were savagely tearing a live fox to pieces, you know - not the trails they are supposed to follow. Hunting live animals is forbidden, which the demonstrators were telling the hunt, being well and truly whipped with her crop for their pains.
This is by no means an isolated incident.

Well said.
As far as I'm concerned, there is something drastically wrong with people who kill animals for pleasure, be it themselves or watching others or training animals to do it for them. It's not ok to train dog to fight, or to bait bears, or to have cock fights, but it's ok to dress up and mount a horse, and 'follow' the trail which leads to the death of an innocent animal. Or dress up and take a gun and shoot birds for fun, it's just sick.
And please don't anyone insult my intelligence by telling me that it's to control vermin !

Re: Two hunters fined €500 each
Well I’m not insulting any one, but to be honest foxes are reqarded as vermin by the farmers. Remember that foxes are top of the food chain in the UK with no natural predators. Left unchecked they breed and they are meat and offal eaters. They live by killing other animals which include young lambs and poultry. They are an animal who kills for the lust of it, not just to eat. I speak as a country reared person, whose parents kept and lost hens in raids to the hen house or hen run, by foxes. They kill as many as they can, not just to feed themselves. Hunting is regulated by the MFHA and all masters should belong to it. Hounds are meant to follow artificial trails, but since there are also foxes about sometimes they may pick up a live trail.Hounds can sometimes be stopped, but not always. The antis delight in making a spectacle out of anything, can be a complete nuisance, a danger to themselves and others. They do attack hunt servants, horses, hounds and get in the way. However they delight in staging and shooting these videos which are launched on the internet. Best taken with a pinch of salt. Don’t believe everything you see reported in the Daily Mail or tabloids or on the internet.

I have seen enough to believe that people who enjoy killing animals are to my mind sick.
Dogs also kill hens and sheep for lust but no-one 'hunts' them. Foxes may be vermin to some, but what is the excuse for dressing up and mounting a horse to follow hounds, purely to watch and enjoy 'the kill'. Control or not, people like this have a problem, a big one. Nothing to do with what is reported in the Daily Mail, I for one, don't take that paper.

Re: Two hunters fined €500 each
Jackie, you are entitled to your opinion. Doesn’t mean that you are completely right. Foxes are not the cuddly animals that the TV programmes may make them out to be. They shouldn’t be in cities scavenging in dustbins and occasionally have been known to be bold enough to enter a house when the back door was left open. One was found about to molest a baby, could easily have killed it and carried it off to eat had it not been stopped.
Hunting for centurys was the accepted way to keep the fox population in check. Otherwise we would need to introduce the wolf again as they did prey on foxes as well as other animals in the food chain.

I should have said that a farmer will shoot any dog caught terrorising sheep by chasing one. The law allows him to do that. Killing sheep or lambs is frowned on. Farmers are running a business not a theme park.

No I'm not completely right, but neither are you. Dogs do far more damage to children than foxes, so why single them out ? Hunting has been accepted for centuries, so were the poor mans blood sports, but they have been banned because of their cruelty, as should fox and stag hunting.
You have not addressed my point of the enjoyment of seeing a wild animal chased in terror, then witness it's final moments torn apart by dogs ( hounds ). I stand by my comments that there is something terribly wrong with anyone who enjoys taking part in the killing of an animal for pleasure, whoever you are.
Why you compare a farm to a theme park is lost on me I'm afraid, apart from the financial factor, that said, yes the farmer has the legal right to destroy dogs on his land, worrying his stock, but in the case of sheep, it's often too late when the farmer discovers the dead and injured animals, and the dogs long gone, fact.

Re: Two hunters fined €500 each
Dee, I don't have a problem with foxes being culled. I don't personally see them as cuddly nice animals, but live animals they are. I understand the problem they pose to farm animals, and in towns now etc and have no problem with them being killed/culled.
What I'm not prepared to accept is the hunting by packs of hounds, and horses ridden by yoiks just out for a bit of sport, with heedless regard of the cost to the animal concerned. This is what us unacceptable. Vermin, of whatever calibre have the right to be culled humanely. Hunting with hounds - again, ILLEGALLY - is about as far from humane as it's possible to go.
I realise that foxes are a problem, but this barbaric way of controlling them - and I'll say it again, ILLEGALLY - is simply unacceptabie.

How about having a Royal vermin cull?

Re: Two hunters fined €500 each
Hunters seem to be above the law or think it doesn’t apply to them. On a road we travel most days we used to see loads of partridge, the area is no hunting with big signs saying so. The first hunting day we drove past, several hunters in the area, sadly we have not seen a single partridge since.

My friend is a part-time Baliff in Speyside and has offered to take me hunting stags in the Cull..... I have always declined - I couldn't do it - but he lives that life and sees the necessity.
