Praying Mantis?

Praying Mantis?
Is this a grasshopper, stick insect or praying mantis? It reminds me of 2 stick insects we had at school called Dull & Boring! He seemed very lethargic and let me pick him up and move to safety from my cats.

I thought so, thanks Max. I’m gradually getting used to country life and nature around me. I find the insects fascinating, dragon flies, praying mantis, beautiful butterflies etc. I watched a spider spinning a large web and wondered where all that silk comes from. The spider doesn’t live on the web, it’s just there to catch prey. And then there’s the ants, they never stop 'working'!

While pruning a large shrub which started to make shade on my solar panels this praying mantis was not amused..but I believe it was the same one which I interrupted last Autumn on the same plant when I did the same job.

Your PM Max is a lovely shade of green. My PM is still on my patio table. He’s alive but he’s either in a trance and having a long nap. If I touch him he’s lively so not injured. Do they hibernate? If so where should a put him for safety? Any ideas?

Don't ask me why - I'm fairly well known for retaining useless facts - but are pms not known for becoming fairly catatonic at times???

I would just put it on a shrub in the garden with a lot of green leaves where it can hide....
