We have used travelinsurance4medical; in their FAQs under the Backpacker and LonStay insurance it says they will insure you for upto 18 months and you can come home twice in that time. It might be worth a look.

Hi Pat let me know how you get on with EHIC Plus as I think I may be using them again in the near future if their prices are still good for annual cover Roger

This thread reminded me to renew our insurance which I did today.

2 of us ages 68 and 63, Europe cover, existing conditions not covered €88.34.

Pete and Sylvia. The high costs kick in when you are over 75 and want annual insurance for up to 90 days a time. Both just had birthdays.

I can appreciate that this is a big risk on "ordinary" holidays but when someone is going to their own home (no cancellation cost) to an EU country (must use local reciprocating hospitals) probably only flight bags then really the only thing I want insurance for is repatriation. (Flights are cheap now so worth the risk of losing them).

When I got the renewal it just got me thinking if there was a way of getting the price down. And I haven't informed the insurers yet about my husband's 3 night stay in Paphos General!

I see you have paid in Euros. Does that mean you are living in Cyprus?

As indicated on our location, we are in Kannaviou, Paphos, now into year 8.

I understand your needs and it might be worth seeing if this company can satisfy them. Even if you are paying for included cover that you don't want, it may be financially effective compared to your current quote. Just another option to try.

Pat you may be better using an insurance broker to do all the spade work for you? When we flew to the UK from Paphos on 3 Feb. there was a lady flying with her husband and accompanied by a Dr -she was in a wheelchair although I did see her walk a little. The plane was slightly delayed as the pilot said he had to check if certain medical apparatus was allowed which I presume must have been for this lady and as I had assistance at Manchester we had to wait for this lady who I presume had to have some assistance before exiting the plane. I did wonder then what the cost must have been and if she was insured and I do hope she is OK.
I do appreciate that £400 is a lot of money and you don't need everything it covers but if a broker can' t help you then it is probably a small price to pay for peace of mind.
One other thing I have just thought of is that Phoenix ambulance service based in Kissonerga have done some repatriation I'm sure and they may be able to provide costs for you. John used to be a member on CL but don't know if he is on here.
