Blood Sugar Control - Expert Required

I'm posting this in the general section as I think most people access it first.

A friend has recently undergone the Whipple procedure which involves removal of most of the pancreas, all of the duodenum and part of the stomach. As a result she now has uncontrollable Type 1 diabetes as her body cannot produce insulin. She has received differing advice from doctors/specialists as to the levels of insulin and frequency of application. For example, after following one specialist's recent advice her blood sugar level dropped to 29 and remained at a dangerous level.

The reason for posting and going into this much detail is to ask if there's anyone out there who can recommend a specialist with the relevant experience, preferably in the Paphos district. If not, anywhere on the island.

I don't have an answer for you, but wondered whether your friend is aware of the Diabetes UK website. It caters for those with both Type 1 AND 2, and gives lots of advice. There is also a helpline - though I'm not sure whether it's accessible from Cyprus. Good luck to your friend.

She works Tuesdays and Thursdays. I've been under her care for about a year

By the way... Do the diabetics remember a few years back that the Blood Sugar home measuring machines were change for another brand, and different strips.
Well today my wife was told that in around six months ???? it is 'all change' again..
But she was told this time the new machines will be available on a prescription, with a 50c stamp on the back.. So I assume from the government pharmacies.
