Hillborough Police Chief NOT being prosecuted
Hillborough Police Chief NOT being prosecuted
A former chief inspector accused of trying to blame Liverpool fans for the 1989 Hillsborough disaster has had all charges against him dropped.
Sir Norman Bettison, then of South Yorkshire Police, had faced four counts of misconduct in a public office.
according to the BBC

Well, there’s a surprise! He lied, colluded and led his officers in a now proven shambles of policing that resulted in deaths.

As I see it, this doesn't mean that should further evidence come to light, he will not face prosecution in the future. The CPS says that changes in the evidence of witnesses and the death of a third, are the reasons that the case has been dropped.

Re: Hillborough Police Chief NOT being prosecuted
Did the police order the so called fans to charge in and crush those in front ?? Typical must blame someone else
Re: Hillborough Police Chief NOT being prosecuted
Old Timer.
The police admitted responsibility; they were in charge of crowd control and failed miserably. To top it off the officers in charge had their own constables alter or falsify statements to cover their own mistakes. There was an enquiry and the verdict exonerated the fans and put the blame on those responsible, the police. If you recall the police were pushing fans who were trying to escape the crush back into it.

For me, its always been about what happened after. Yes mistakes were made which led to many people losing their lives and lessons have been learned. What is unforgivable was what the Police did/said afterwards in a deliberate campaign of lies and misinformation to blame the supporters for what happened which was led from the very top! Papers like the Sun were fully part of this, buying into and publicising these lies and perpetuating the myth.
Re: Hillborough Police Chief NOT being prosecuted
Cookie, it was certain senior officers that gave the orders and it was certain senior officers that did the talking after the event NOT the normal rank and file officers who were there, they did as they were told/ordered on the day in and around the ground.
I suspect that you will not find any West Yorkshire or South Yorkshire rank and file officers having a collection for Bettison, not a liked person!

Re: Hillborough Police Chief NOT being prosecuted
Excusing he French, but how typical an attitude from you. No blame to authorities. As him said. An enquiry found 100% of blame on the police. They also lied AFTEr the event. Many times. Collusion doesn’t even go far enough. It’s time you realised that authority is there to be questioned and brought to task. Typical hudswell or can you be brave enough to use your real name?Hudswell wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 4:04 pm Again I think this is one of those situations where the gift of hindsight would come in so useful, you simply had to be on the ground on the day...in that position, making decisions based on how you saw it at the time....and yes bad decisions were made as invariably happens in high stress situation, especially when thousands of people are involved....unless you were there on the ground it is almost impossible to understand the split second decisions that had to be taken and why. Sitting in a controlled environment years later, surrounded by the facts or otherwise, collated over a number of years and making informed decisions is a hell,of a lot easier...but fundamentally flawed because the stresses of the day cannot be measured or reconstructed. Saying that, the fact that the authorities tried to cover up events is unforgivable.

Hudswell, I dont care what your name is on different forums, I just find it strange that people dont use their own to sign off, if using a nom de plume, but that’s just me...
I did read your last sentence and it doesnt matter, this chief was principally responsible. I know you don’t give a damn on my views, that doesn't bother me in the slightest. You hold you own political views and I don’t slate you for them - unlike you to me....
I dont blame individual officers - some of whom (those not in the right lodge) were thrown to the lions. I blame people like this piece of filth who lied and has caused decades of hurt and worse and gets off.

Jim, I wholeheartedly agree with your comment. A tragic business and unsurprisingly those at the top get away scot free.

You don't use your name to sign off, so do you consider yourself strange ? Just asking.

Hudswell, read the enquiry where it was stated that officers were ordered to a lodge for a meeting post Hillsborough, where collusion in a cover up was created

I suggest, especially after reading this article, that people keep their thoughts about Hillsborough to themselves.

I see what you're saying Hudswell but.....the day after he must have.
It seems his main aim from that point on was to cover his back.
I don't understand why you're even attempting to argue in his favour...
