When the road you driving is not concrete, but crystals...(pics)
This week I drove a little road to explore the countryside and what was before a concrete track, became very exciting (OK for me!)for a sudden.
left and right of the track these nice gypsum crystal formations but the road still concrete ...
but suddenly no more concrete, but pure crystals you are driving ...
obviously the crystals are hard enough to survive as there is for sure some traffic at times..
huge bolders left and right of the track
obviously frequented from hunters as well...
beautiful crystals of various gypsum formations
actually one drives ca 1 km or so on crystals until the road becomes quite bad and I suggest to use the track with 4x4 only. I would not try in winter.
This pic shows the road, how it continues, but from the distance you cannot see the crystals though...

No, it is the Letymbou-Kourdaka old road, starting just 300m above the old Saint Kerykos Church..

If I can get the keys of this 12th century church one day I will do some pics from the frescoes inside. Some of them are from this period, others from the 14th century.

It's gypsum. There's a lot of it in the area, and it's fascinating.

I wonder if Andreas (Lofos-5) missed this post as he normally comments about Cyprus Geology... this road he would love....

Hi Max - I have not missed the post - wonderful photographs and definitely a road/church that I would want to explore soon.
I was just too sad to respond as I am out of Cyprus for too long for my liking (dealing with heat stress here in the ME...)
