Paphos is most expensive to shop??

How they can do a proper survey when there is not the same amount of items in the basket?

Poor research in my opinion.

What a pointless survey! If you don't compare brand vs brand it is completely meaningless.

They also say it is only supposed to be used as a general guide. A general guide to what? I am not driving all the way to Nicosia to do my shopping.

I agree, totally pointless. It would be like comparing well known brands with own store brands. You have to have like for like & usually the basket of goods used in these surveys is around £40/50 including milk, bread, eggs etc.

I think the best survey usually carried out is when CTO visits the various beach bars and cafes in the tourist areas and posts the prices of the same items in the various resorts of Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos.

I can't recall exactly when they do it but it's generally published in the Cyprus Mail once completed.

Do we have forum members from any of the main cities other than Paphos?

There's no reason we couldn't do our own. Agree 30 products, and then match them at your local supermarket.

Places like Lidl would be tricky, as a lot of their brands are fairly unique.

Shopping in Lidl is more than tricky to compare prices
when you are shopping clever using their weekly special offers.
They are inexpensive with a lot of products coming from Germany or Italy
but when one waits for the special offers they are really cheap.
But must say Lidl is much more expensive in CY than in Italy for example,
but they are clever enough to undercut the high price level in CY.

LIDL have started stocking BECAL ACTIV spread here at €6.95 for 500 grams (same price as AlfaMega). In the UK it sells in LIDL for about £2.00

One thing that is much much cheaper here of course (at LIDL.cy & other store in CY) is alcohol.
