(Kataklysmos or festival of the flood Walk.

Post by Anarita John »

Today started my walk at Jim's Beach, by the Lunar Park, at 7:30am, a little later than usual. Quite a few people fishing at Penelope's Church.

Path busy with mainly locals. One family had camped out in an old Commer van and were eating their breakfast on the new seats before going for their swim in the sea. When I returned, about an hour later, they had gone.Municipal Beach was already quite busy.

Most of the stalls at the harbour had not yet opened. This one was open. I wonder if the owner had been asleep there all night. He was in exactly this position yesterday at 7am.

Too early to sample some honeyballs. (loukoumades) Lloyd will have to get down later as he loves them.

Walked as far as the guillotine on the lighthouse footpath and then back to Jim's Beach.

The beaches on the way back had filled up. A new kiosk has appeared on some waste ground by the hotel that is being built. At Jim's Beach I talked to a very interesting person who used to run a forum here in Paphos.
Hope everyone has a lovely Kataklysmos.

Our family has names for various places around Paphos, due mainly to not wanting to pronounce the proper name correctly. Jim Cross has posted pictures of this beach over the years so it has become Jim's Beach. Penelope's Church is nearby, funded by a particular famous local lawyer.

Perhaps people would rather I post using the correct geographical names. eg the beach with no name near the Phaethon Beach Hotel.

Just changed that. Wrong choice of word. I was thinking of the sign she has outside her offices, "Penelope's Palace"

Jim's Beach is not quite Riccos Beach. It is between the Atlantica Seafood Restaurant, and the Phaethon Beach Hotel. It is where Jim's dog enjoyed walking on the pile of stinking rotting seaweed earlier in the year.

No Dominic, it is Jim's Beach. I named it so it will always be called Jim's Beach. He has photographed it many times over the years to illustrate points he made :D

Likewise, that rock you photographed Dominic will always be Dominic's Rock.

This would be Geroskipou beach, Riccos beach or Jim's beach it's not, thanks all the same, and John nice to chat again, seaweed has gone for now thankfully, as already posted, and it was dreadful, piles of it, not against seaweed as such but this was several meters deep! I guess this will always be a problem here.

This whole area is going to be developed, I doubt I will see it finished as cash-strapped Pafos/Geroskipou will take many years to get the funds together, one day this will be the best beach resort in this eastern area of Pafos I feel. 8-)

John did you notice that someone stole my reclining bench...b*****s :D

That is what I will refer to it in future, Geroskipou Beach. Sorry about your reclining chair, it wasn't me. Great talking to you Jim. Also well done Coventry City. One ofthe nice things about going for a walk or bike ride is the people you meet and get talking to.
