Re: Retirement in Paphos
I have a friend who lives in Chollerton, Northampton. I have regular contact with him, and he always complains of cloudy wet days, even in the summer !!!

If you know your geography, you would know that Chollerton is in Northumberland A mere slip of the pen on my part.

Re: Retirement in Paphos
The majority of people move to Cyprus, because the weather in the UK is so terrible. Those who return, usually do so because they wish to see more of the grandchildren. We can't all be wrong about the weather, you seem to be wearing "rose tinted spectacles"
Re: Retirement in Paphos
Glorious day today in Hereford, drove through the local villages, what a delight to see the daffodils, and primroses all in bloom. Warm enough for just a light weight top, not a jumper in sight.
Ah yes, Spring in England.

Of course the weather here is not like Cyprus and I have never tried to say it was but we have plenty of sunshine and prove me wrong if you can!! I most certainly am not wearing rose tinted spectacles and as you know my husband is a photographer who has taken literally thousands of pictures over the last year the majority of which are in the sun although there are some in the snow too but then we did get snow in Kathikas ( not quite the same I have to agree)
I don't know why people want to believe it is so terrible here.I have never tried to deter people from moving to Cyprus or encourage them to return - we had 10 mainly happy years there so it is always up to the individual.
Re: Retirement in Paphos
I'm from Northumberland and it's a beautiful county as many people thankfully bypass it for Scotland.
It's got lovely deserted sandy beaches - because it's invariably cold and windy.
My father always said we had eleven months winter with one month bad weather. We lived by the sea and every Winter it would strip the pebble dash from the external walls. My father used ship varnish on the house exterior as it was the only thing that had a chance against the weather.
England (apologies to the rest of the UK) in the summer in the countryside is lovely on a lovely day but there are too few of those days in the year.
One of the first things I came to appreciate about Cyprus was having a lovely summer well before mid summers day unlike living in the UK and wondering whether there will ever be a summer. Yes, August is very hot and clammy here but then there is the thought of a beautiful mid September, all of October and much of November to look forward to. Not so in the UK.
Each to his own, I guess.

Re: Retirement in Paphos
It seems the only people who bang on about how good the weather is in the UK, are the ones who return, please give it up, we all know how terrible the weather is in the UK, it was one of the reasons many of us chose to come to Cyprus

Re: Retirement in Paphos
One photo does not a summer make. I take it all the snow has melted now. I presume that it didn't fall from nice blue skies. And the "green and pleasant land" didn't get green because of constant sunshine.
We didn't move to Cyprus because of the weather though. That is a definite bonus (current dust levels notwithstanding), but we moved for the slower pace of life, the friendly people, and the stunning countryside.
Now, the UK has it's fair share of stunning countryside too, but I prefer Cyprus's.

The countryside is different but I don't think you can claim one is better or worse than the other, it's just a matter of preference really!

Exactly. As I said, I prefer the Cyprus countryside. The sheer variety if phenomenal, in such a small area. And as for the geology...
Uk has much better rockpools though.

You've proved your point Poppy.
I hope you don't leave the forum as I find your posts interesting.
Just don't let WHL get to you. In my opinion he's simply a windup merchant.
He's been a member of this forum for a year today and I don't think he has EVER posted a kind comment.

This is simply not true. And to be frank, if a poster has irritated you for a year and you haven't put them on ignore, then who is really to blame here?June wrote: ↑Sun Mar 25, 2018 11:25 pm You've proved your point Poppy.

Honestly, I have seen some silly reasons to be annoyed on this forum, but people getting worked up about the weather differences between Cyprus and the UK just takes the cake.
Is this all a secret ploy to get UK pictures shown on the General Discussions page rather than Beyond Cyprus? The truth will out...

And you are entitled to your opinion, as I am, no where on the forum rules have I seen, when posting you have to agree to what people post... I dont know if you or your mate poppy understand how forums work, you give your opinion others give theirs, as long as people arnt abusive, then there should be no problem, I take it you didnt see or choose not to mention your mate poppys abusive post the other day calling everyone who disagrees with her a T****r....June wrote: ↑Sun Mar 25, 2018 11:25 pm You've proved your point Poppy.

There are articles like that written about every place on the planet. The authors tend to have very low IQs.

Re: Whether the weather be hot...
Why has Poppy deleted all her posts ? Toys and pram, spring to mind.
Re: Whether the weather be hot...
If she wants her posts deleted, she only has to ask. It will make some of the threads in the politics section look a bit weird (no change there then!) but when you delete a user, one of the options is to remove all the posts. Nobody is obliged to post here, apart from me.
I just wish people would play nice and block who they really can't abide. But this is not news. I have been saying that for over a year. I've even done easy to follow instructions.
