Ambulances ...

Post by MacManiac »

There have been many threads dealing with the ambulance service, and whether to trust the local service or pay for a private service.

Tonight I had a heavy fall in the garden (I tripped over the dog) and Ann could not get me on my feet. She rang 112 for an ambulance. We live in the middle of a field on the outskirts of Argaka, and we were told the ambulance from Polis Hospital was on its way. They rang a couple of times en route, and arrived pretty quickly. The driver and the nurse soon got me onto a trolley, and then into the ambulance.

Arriving at Polis Hopsital, the A & E doctor decided I needed an x-ray and I was dispatched to a local private clinic with whom they have an arrangement. Two x-rays later and I was back at Polis hospital. Badly bruised ribs, a pain-killing injection and I was on my way home. I have to go back for another x-ray at the hospital (as apparently the ones taken at the local private clinic were difficult to interpret) and check with the doctor who was on duty at A & E.

It could only have been ten minutes for the ambulance to arrive, I was treated professionally and with the utmost care and courtesy, and I cannot but applaud the service I received. Back home safe and sound (but pretty sore) I have nothing but praise for the underfunded health service.

Good to hear a positive rather then the usual doom and gloom, hope you make speedy recovery, re the private ambulance service, 99.9% of Cypriots don’t use them and life goes on etc

Get well soon, and it is very much appreciated when positive stories like this are related.

It isn't the first good news story I have read about the service, so it is hardly a start.

Both my wife and I have experience of both Government ambulances and private ones. We prefer to use a private one..

Ridiculous to say this is an isolated case, but hey doom and gloom sells papers as they say.

Why 'thank me' for that post and then go on to criticize it. Seems you're getting a bit confused! :?
Confused?....where did I thank you, as I said, ridiculous post.

Private doesn't necessarily mean good. A while back I was taken from Paphos to Nicosia in one. It was a rough ride due to bad suspension, and they got lost getting onto the Highway, and weren't too clear on what they should do once they got to the hospital. I'm not saying the government ones are better or worse, only that private just means private, no more.

And this is the General Section, so less of the "What a ridiculous post" and more of the "I have to disagree" please. :)

Lincoln

I believe you may be wrong. Check Austin's post of 8.22 am, at the bottom where users thank the person for their post.

But, with the exception of Lincoln, who appears to have been hitting the rum quite hard today, we all know who thanked who.

Besides, every post keeps the positive comment about the ambulance service at the top of the forum. So that can't be bad.
