Riccos Beach
Re: Riccos Beach
My father used to use comfrey in the same way, also a hideous smelling concoction made from seaweed and sheep dung which he brewed in large tubs, he even considered using the heat generated in these to heat the conservatory but my mother (probably wisely) put her foot down,
His tomatoes, peppers and aubergines were wonderful, he put his success down to his magic sheep sh**t mixture.
I have bought liquid seaweed concentrate with iron here in Cyprus and used it to great effect, but whilst it smells much less pungent, it doesn't quite achieve the same miraculous results.

Back on the topic, today at Riccos bar, he is open probably for the Green Monday trade but it looks in a terrible mess where once the bar stood, I tried to find out what the future holds for the business, even the bar users were not sure, they think it will be rebuilt with modern beach bar and facilities in its place, anyway here are some shots taken on Green Monday (that is what it is called, the start of Lent) of the mess that was once Riccos beach bar.

Re: Riccos Beach

Anyone considering eating there needs to think twice.

Re: Riccos Beach
There used to be very basic toilets and showers outside, only cold water but plenty of places to wash your hands.
Re: Riccos Beach
We have these places over the East, most were set up after 74 when people needed to feed their family's after the invasion, so the authorities turned a blind eye, but as the years have past, many have build extensions on to what was a basic shack, time has come to knock them all down, firstly none would pass heath standards re hygiene, fire regulations etc, they are illegally build on public beaches, and they have an advantage on other businesses who pay top dollar to have restaurants/bars water side, let them tender for new buildings build by the local council like anybody else.

It is still a pigsty. Yes we all know it has character and is nice for a relaxing drink, also great toasted sarnies. However I for one will be pleased when it is all cleared and a new HYGENIC place is put in it's place.

It is not now a pigsty as it has gone basically, with a small hut they are using for their regulars, and it did have running water, the toilet units are still there, see photos poor as they are..

Re WHL comment above.
We use Nissi beach in the Summer, Ayia Napa way.
The "beach huts" there are amazing. Kids can get an ice cream, mum can get a cuppa, our kid can get a lager, etc.
You are never more than a few maters away from one. They are all up along the coast. This kind of facility attracts tourist with cash to spend. It is badly needed on this coast.
I don't know who Riccos regulars are but I think it is bsd news when, after the old place was closed, he is allowed to open another one.

Re: Riccos Beach
William, it is not a new building he is now using it was already on the site, the old bar as you can see has gone, the question for those who use that area is what will replace it if anything. The whole of the mile-long beach is going to be developed, with what and when then that is the question, no answers as yet, I will pop in the Municipality building and ask, I may get an answer, maybe not.
By the way, the old bar serviced some tourists but mainly older local people who used the bar as a meeting place and a game of Tavali not really a tourist bar I feel.

Re: Riccos Beach
Jim, yes. I know that.
My point is ...
Is he closed or is he open?
Seems like nothing has changed. Bring in the bulldozers, I say.

Re: Riccos Beach
It has been posted William he is open using that small glass hut.
The Aquila
Yes I do know this as I have posted the same, in fact, the beach right out to the east is going to be developed......they say,
I will as soon as possible go in the Municipality and ask, no doubt they will not have a good answer, as cash is tight.

Well, you have to give the bloke 10 out of 10 for resillience. He's relocated his beach bar and is trading as normal.7

Re: Riccos Beach
The municipality has been trying to get rid of his place for years, but each time he somehow manages to evade them, I hope that, they will dislodge him this time, at least until they have built something new for him. But if they do, will he actually pay any rent?
