No thanks! That is the sure fire way to catch flu. The vaccine is always based on last years bug anyway and offers little or no protection against the latest strain.

Says who? That is the advice my Doctor has given me for years. I am not a Doctor, are you?

The vaccine we have in the UK this year is not the same as last years, maybe in Cyprus it is. I have had flu twice in my life, I have never contracted it from vaccine, and if it prevents TRUE FLU, you know woman flu, I wouldn't ever refuse it.

I get a flu jab every year, this year being no exception, but the doctor told me on the 5th December that my symptoms (fever, shakes, headaches, chest pains, thoat sore enough not being able to swallow, profuse quantities of yellow muck and aching bones) was flu. No surprise.

It's now the 12th and I'm on my second batch of antibiotics and still feeling rough.

Does the flu jab work ? Hard to say whether in previous years I didn't get the flu because I had the jab or was fortunate enough that nobody coughed and spluttered over me.

My Mum had flu one Christmas (proper "womens' flu) when I was 9 years old.

She couldn't walk, couldn't see, couldn't stand unaided and my Dad had to take her to the loo each time she banged on the floor from upstairs with my Grandma's walking stick. She had a temperature of 104 farenheit and the doctor was coming to the house to see her twice a day. She didn't want to go to hospital but was told if it went up any more, there was no choice about it.

It took her over 3 weeks to be able to stand on her own and get back down the stairs.....

Don't ever tell my Mum you've had "flu" if you've spent a couple of days in bed with a bad cold!
She'll rip your head off :-D

Yes that's TRUE flu, many say they have flu, when it's just a bad cold. When I last had it about 30 years ago, I can remember going into the bathroom and not knowing which toothbrush was mine. MOH was on nights when it hit, I passed out on the kitchen floor trying to get to the phone to call him.
