If you come over here to work, whether employed or self employed, you will have to pay into the Social Security system for 3 years before you can claim any benefits such as free (well, almost) medical cover. In the meantime, you have to prove to Immigration that you a) are who you say you are (bring birth, wedding and divorce certificates), b) that you can afford to live here without being a burden on the State and c) that you have medical insurance.
If you move over here, you should register your presence with the Immigration Department within 3 months of your arrival. If you are living over here for more than 180 days in total in any one calendar year, then you must also register with the Tax Dept because as I understand it, you will be deemed to be tax resident in Cyprus.
As others have done, I would recommend you come over for an extended holiday, see how you like it after a minimum of 1 month - any less and you are still highly likely to be in holiday mode and wearing rose tinted specs. Again, I'm in agreement with others who suggest you rent rather than buy over here. If you buy and your situation changes suddenly, you will not be able to sell very easily - unless you practically give the property away.
Whatever you choose to do, I wish you well.

Just an addition to the above, your UK NI contributions count towards the 3 year rule so are transferable if you have 3 current years NI immediately on moving here. You would in that case qualify for a medical card sooner - subject to income being below the €15,400 without dependants limit.
