Re: Emergency Information for Monarch Customers.

Post by PhotoLady »

That's not the way I understand it Flossie..... even if flight only passengers don't have an ATOL certificate the rescue flights are still bringing the passengers home free of charge, but only up until 15 October.

From the Monarch CAA website page:
Will I be charged for my flight back to the UK? If you are due to fly back to the UK on Monarch Airlines on or before 15 October 2017, or if your travel after that date is ATOL protected, you will be brought back to the UK at no cost to you. The Government will be seeking to recover some of the costs from debit and credit card companies in due course. In order to help with this, you may be asked to provide some information about how you paid for your original booking. You will not be charged for the new flight.
However, those who booked flight only after 14 December 2016 and are still in resort but are no longer covered by ATOL will have to pay for any additional costs such as extra accommodation if their flight does not take place on their original return date.
Passengers with Atol protection are entitled to reasonable accommodation and subsistence costs if they are delayed by more than four hours.

Those without Atol protection may be able to claim from credit card providers or insurers. Further information will be made available via the website. The CAA will process your refund as quickly as possible - check the dedicated website for more information.

The way I read the questions I would agree with Photolady. The flight is covered, the other expenses aren't.

My brother and his wife were meant to fly out with Monarch last night in order to have a 1 week holiday with us but they have had to postpone their holiday until next year due to Monarch's problems.

Their travel insurance company (American Express) along with most travel insurers does not provide cover for airlines going bust. Thankfully, he paid by credit card and should - eventually - get his money back. He managed to recover all but £10 from the airport parking company, but Travel Lodge refused to re-imburse the two nights accommodation he booked for outward and return journeys. There are a few lessons for us all in this, for future reference...

It's funny how people go on about RyanAir. I keep reading people comparing it to Ratner. But it's nothing like that. RyanAir's problem was bad staff mamnagement, wasn't it?

Which in itself is why it is a comparison to Ratner?
