New HP Laptop

Post by ApusApus »

Just bought a new HP laptop as my old one is finally giving up on me! First thing that struck me is that the touch pad is off centre to the left, not in the middle as my previous one! Although slightly off-putting I'm sure I will get used to it although my fingers are still missing the keys by a margin. This got me thinking ............. how do left-handed people get on with products that are obviously designed only for right-handed people? For example, you don't get any cameras that are left hand operated! Do left-handed people get a raw deal?

Shane

PS. Incidentally, my brother was left-handed

I have had a few different laptops, but found I much preferred to use a wireless mouse. I find I can use this left handed and right handed..

You can buy left handed versions of most bits of kit. Left handed mice do exist, especially for gamers, who have no end of buttons on their mice.

You can usually swap right to left (and vice versa) in user input Mouse options in most OSs. AL :)

Being a leftie, it is not just a mouse but the keyboard. Is set up to be sensitive to right handers, if that makes sense! I frequently end up with the letter next to the one I was trying to select! I am mostly ambidextrous, we lefties don't have much choice sometimes! I do get annoyed when a public building has double doors and they are set up with one opening, for right handers. The main post office is one that springs to mind!

But should you have to ........... where in the main stream shops do you see products suitable for left-handed people?

There is (or was) a chain of shops that catered for lefties in the UK. But to be honest, I don't know, as I have never had to buy one. For all I know they do sell them, I have just never looked.
