Dear Members,

We would like to inform you that after the merge the new Company ”Evangelismos Phoenix Emergency Medical Services” we will fulfil every new & old Membership Plan as agreed.

To answer many questions that have occurred:

Q: Are our Subscriptions that were made with Phoenix still valid?

A: Yes they are

Q: Are the ambulances staffed with qualified Paramedics?

A: Our crews are staffed with ILS Qualified Nurses, Doctors and trained Drivers which are trained regular by our Paramedics. Paramedics are not recognized by Cyprus Law and are not allowed to give any medications to patients. We do have English Trained Paramedics & EMT`s (Emergency Medical Technician) also trained to this standard.

Q: Will we be taken to any hospital we choose?

A: Of course, it is your choice in which hospital you want to be transferred / treated.

Q: Are we registered in the new GPS Systems?

A: All members from the previous Phoenix Services are in process to be registered in our Professional Dispatching Software by Coordinates.

We have trained dispatchers which control our main Software. All our members are registered and GPS located (with Coordinates to your House).

Q: Are there any original staff in the new merged company?

A: Yes, we still have some Phoenix original staff. However, some also chose not to be part of the new merge.

More worrying is the fact that I have sent them an email to the address they last messaged me from reminding me to pay my subscription..

This is what bounced back

Where to start. John. There were no paramedics in the UK in 1983. You are not a member of BASICS and they do not authorise people to use that title you claim. They can confirm that. Paramedics first started to be used in the UK in around 1989. They were trained from the NHSTD Blue Book to a far lower standard than there is now. Technician training today starts at the level of 80's paramedic training now. The British Army have never permitted their CMT's to call themselves paramedics whilst serving. The Med Centre at DK can confirm that. The armed forces are now allowing new and existing medics to obtain a civillian paramedic degree qualification as a means of attracting recruits which runs alongside their service training. There is a scheme still in operation that allows CMT1 to cross over to Ambulance Technician, not paramedic but that route closes shortly. Paramedic in the UK became a protected title in the early 2000's if I recall correctly. It may have been earlier. Nobody in the UK may use that title unless they are registered with the HPC after meeting the education standards. An offshore medic course is 4 weeks long. The original paramedic course for the NHS was 10 weeks to become a Technician plus a minimum of one year before a 6 week course and 4 weeks hospital placement. It is now a two year degree minimum. The HSE offshore medics rules allow a paramedic who has done the 4 week offshore course to register as an offshore medic. The HPC do not allow a CMT from the 80's with an offshore certificate to register as a paramedic. The reason that they protected the title was to stop any Tom, Dick and Harry from calling themselves a paramedic in the UK. Cyprus has no such law yet so you can continue to call yourself what you like, but not a fully qualified UK paramedic. There are many ways to verify what we say here and we are sure of our facts.

That is fine. In order to send and receive PMs though, you will have to have posted 4 times. It is an anti-spam measure.

It would be of interest if you could identify who 'US' is Keogh, as at present we only have a name .

No I responded as an member of the emergency services in a vehicle with blue lights and two tone horns for over 25 years.

Stop trying to be clever.

Remember there are only two emergency services in the UK Police and Fire. But I am sure you know that

'Keogh' has made valid points that i have tried repetatively to explain and it seems to fall on deaf ears. I am proud of my registration and put a lot of time, money and experience into gaining that title. It is frustrating when individuals use this title becuase 'they believe' they deserve it, not that they have demonstrated skills and expeirence to nationally recognised standards.

I am also an offshore medic and I can assure you that this title does not make me a Paramedic. Offshore medics are governed by a 'top-side' GP and have no autonomy over drug administration. As a Paramedic i was able to give drugs autonomously as a i was legally registered by the HCPC.

A yellow piece of paper with the word Paramedic printed on it does not demonstrate competency in anything.

To answer Trev. We have been observing the Paphos saga for years. We're all retired from a number of related and associated careers. We have predicted and seen what had occured. Our thought is to replicate what happens in TRNC with volunteers rather than creating a business some greedy clinic owner wants to take for themselves. Getting people up to a good standard and not necessarily the UK model would not be that hard. The St Johns ambulance now answer 999 calls back home. There are plenty of bored people who would like a worthwhile pastime and it could fill the gap in the market so to speak, and we wouldn't be open to selling out to a private clinic. Please take a look here at a recent article in TRNC https://cyprusscene.com/2017/03/31/nort ... op-at-gau/
