Our new, favourite beach

Post by Anarita John »

Kurium used to be our favourite beach within driving distance of Anarita. Quieter than Coral Bay,and also sandy. However, we went there in May, and the sand had disappeared, with lots of stones covering the beach.
We had been to Lady's Mile previously, but just the end nearest the port. I had a look at the map, and realised you had to cross the salt flats to get to the lower end, or, alternatively, drive from the port end down a fairly bumpy road.
We decided to cross the salt flats, with trepidation at first as we had seen Jules picture of her car stuck in the mud. No need to worry though.
We have been there five times in the last fortnight. Lovely to swim in the sea and very safe for children as it is shallow for a long way out.
From Paphos we take the motorway and get off at the Episkopi Garrison turn off. Drive through the garrison, down the hill, passed the Kurium theatre turnoff and the Kurium Beach turnoff on the right, and then take the next right to Akrotiri. Go passed the British Cemetery and turn right at the t junction. When you get to Akrotiri, the turn off for Lady's Mile is signposted on the left, just before the Nature Reserve Observation building.

Ah, great to see it and pleased to hear you're enjoying the new location 😊

There's no problem accessing Ladies Mile from the direction you are currently taking so no need to worry. We've used it countless times. We ended up stuck approaching from a different way and following a detour but thinking we had gone too far as we saw what we thought was the perimeter fencing at Akrotiri, we made a U turn. It proved a fatal error on our part but all ended well after a couple of hours or so, fifty Euros lighter and almost killing two rescue vehicles.... My Wednesday afternoon off was far more entertaining than the shopping in Lidl which my husband had in mind!

Yes that was our favourite beach too but if you don't want the very windy drive through the garrison then carry on the motorway until the sign for Kolossi, follow the signs for the castle and of course you are then on the same rd as Anarita John
