Scheduled power cuts

I believe that power cuts can still be avoided in daytime if we have sunny conditions and all the rooftop photovoltaic systems producing electricity.

Different story at night time when there is no sun, however also less demand as no shops are open.

Thanks to PV (photo-voltaic) all the electricity produced from households are reducing the load on the grid as they are consumed first from all appliances in the house running (mainly air-cons).

I think without all the PV systems recently installed we could have had power cuts already the last 4-6 days with such low temperatures.

Perhaps EAC can handle the situation as from tomorrow the big freeze is moving away to the east... and there is also the "North" which was already assisting and supplied power to the EAC grid.

Surely this is a worry when Cyprus hotels and Airbnb are empty and the system can just about cope with no cuts where does the electricity come from when we fill up with tourist etc.

That's a good question because in Summer the average tourist will have the aircon going in every room that they can. And just about every restaurant will have the fans going.

With this & potential water shortages perhaps us tourists should start planning a staycation. Some of our bowls club members are questioning this situation & I try to convince them all will be ok but should I be concerned?

Thankyou gentlemen for your replies. I have also experienced a water shortage many years ago but the hotel did not impose restrictions. Perhaps they had exemptions but planning again for 50+ members is not easy. I appreciate Dominics & Trevs comments & will feed that back

It's different for us. Whether there are or aren't cuts we will still be here. We don't have the option. Consequently, we will just have to deal with them. You on the other hand, can change your venue / country etc. Should you do that? I can't tell you. But you could always ask the venues themselves, what happens in the event of water rationing etc.

Update on our clubs visit to Paphos. A meeting was held a few weeks ago & with the uncertainty around possible water shortages & no reassurance from the hotel the vote sadly went against me. I realise that residents may have differing opinions on tourism especially when also facing potential issues but all agreed that they will miss visiting Paphos this year including the many who are not bowlers but ventured out each day to explore the island and enjoy the hospitality it offers. In answer to a question raised privately the answer is we went on a B&B basis so everyone had the opportunity to explore the myriad of restaurants in the area. I can fully understand your club's decision. Events like that are not cheap. Paphos will still be here next year. And perhaps if businesses get a few more cancellations they will put pressure on the Government to put together a more coherent plan than the current one, whatever that is.

I can remember when there were water restrictions during several times in the day in the residential areas but at that time the tourist area wasn’t effected but with the development growth of hotels and houses over the years, this year could be very different interesting times ahead
