According to information from “Φ”, the land was divided into two plots – a coastal plot and an inland plot – and has been sold by the Bank of Cyprus to two separate – independent – ​​investors, without however disclosing the purchase prices. It is recalled that the entire area was granted by the CTC Group to the Bank of Cyprus for 93.3 million euros.

Specifically, the land located inland was sold several months ago to a Cypriot group of companies, while the "deal" for the remaining half of the area - which extends along the coastal front - was "closed" a short time ago, with the buyer being a "legal entity with Cypriot interests".

"Φ" reports that the legal entity that bought the coastal "fillet", of approximately 1.5 million sq. m., is the ETYK Provident Fund, which maintains approximately half a billion in reserves and can purchase and develop such a large area.

It is clarified that so far the plans of the ETYK Provident Fund for the plot have not been made known.

Essentially, however, based on the new data, the plan for a unified development is being abandoned and therefore each investor will proceed with their own business plans and a different way of utilizing the land they acquired.

Although the plans of the ETYK Provident Fund that acquired the coastal plot have not yet been made known, "Φ" has nevertheless obtained information on how the Cypriot group of companies that acquired the plot inland intends to proceed.

Based on our information, the Group does not wish to proceed with the initial plan and has already submitted applications for a change of permits and use, based on its own business plan. In fact, the same information states that the plans for the development of a golf course and hotel have been completely abandoned and the investor wants to proceed with other types of developments, while part of the area is intended for a photovoltaic park.

It is noted that the land had been granted by the Group to the Bank of Cyprus along with the issued permits for the creation of golf courses, hotel infrastructure and other developments, which had been secured based on the original design for the Limni Bay Resort.

At the same time, the pier that Nikos Shacolas had built in the area and is publicly accessible, is close to being destroyed, since it seems that it has not been maintained by the competent authorities over the years, although it is used by both locals and tourists who take their stroll in the area.

A video sent to the offices of "Φ" shows that the dock, due to the poor condition it is in, poses a serious danger to those who use it, and if it is not repaired soon, it will be completely destroyed.

But Polis Campsite Beach was used by a lot of people, not just campers. Indeed, often when we went there the campsite was virtually deserted, but there were still plenty of people on the beach. Now, with no facilities at all, the place is declining. How long before it loses its coveted blue flag status? It certainly doesn't meet the requirements any more. And sooner or later, human waste will start to wash down from there towards the beaches of Latchi, as that is the way the current normally flows.

With regards turtle nests, I thought the planned golf area was the mine itself, which was well away from the sea.The beach between Limni Pier and Argaka was cleaned a couple of years ago though. Lots of slag from the mines was removed, and the coastline is a lot nicer now. People moaned when some of the trees were chopped down, but people always moan. I think the nest issue was further along the coast, and related to a couple of illegal bars. To be honest I feel sorry for the bar owners though. There is a huge stretch of coast there, and I am sure a couple of bars wouldn't have made that much difference.
