The electricity authority announced a program for the undergrounding of all overhead power lines that pass through forest areas.
After the decision to underground the line that supplies the Stavros tis Psokas forest station, EAC spokesperson Christina Papadopoulou noted that 7 more projects are planned to replace bare conductors in state forests in 2025 and another 11 projects in 2026.
Ms. Papadopoulou noted that with the aim of preventing and avoiding fires, the EAC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Department of Forests, the Hunting Fund and the Civil Aviation, is starting the project of installing a new underground medium voltage cable of approximately 14 km in length, along the existing asphalt road, to supply the Forestry Station at Stavros tis Psokas.
Ms. Papadopoulou states that the works will begin on Monday, November 25 and will be completed at the end of February, before the start of the bird nesting season. At the same time, she adds, a working group has been established with officers from the EAC, the Department of Forests, the Fire Service and the Hunting Service, with the aim of reducing the risk of fires from the EAC network.
