Solar Water Heating

Post by harveywinning »

I would guess that our house is about 20 years old. Probably still got the original solar panels. A guy said that they are starting to go but would get a few more years out of them. Question: I'm told new panels are much more effecient and would produce lots of really hot water. Has anyone replaced theirs and are the claims correct?

Replaced our 12 year old panels last year and now find a significant improvement in their efficiency.

Replaced mine 23 years ago when we moved in. They appear to be working fine. I usually climb up and wash them off before winter starts, as the pigeons mess on them.

Our house is also approx 20 yrs old, when we bought in ‘21, we struggled with hot water, had them replaced. Deterioration in old panels was obvious to see when taken down, definitely fantastic difference.

I had new panels fitted 2 years ago by Kafson solar.
I also got a grant towards the cost of replacing them, I got €450 back from the government.
2 solar Panels, new cold water tank, and hot water tank with a new frame as well.

Do you mind saying how much total price was? We have a 24 yr old property ( from new) and are considering replacing tank panels etc on the roof .I don’t think we would get the grant as sadly not permanent residents just frequent visitors.

It cost me €1650 less the €450 grant money.
