Jim B
I believe that were my wife and I to find ourselves in a similar situation to you, Jim, in which a quintessential right was thrown into jeopardy, I would feel exactly as you do, and act accordingly.
Although, having seen your posts, I would surmise that you had, additionally, a prior agenda on the subject of the EU- for those other reasons which you have made clear.

Re: Should 16yr olds have the vote?
Happy in Cyprus.
(Admittedly completely off topic)
I was intrigued by your remark…. “I observed that in almost every aspect we are completely different people to what we were then, though I guess our spirits/souls - the essence of who we are - are just the same.”
I am a convinced reincarnationist, so your remark made complete sense to me. An interesting meditation involves asking “who am I?” We are patently not our jobs, our sex, our real or imagined talents and attributes. Nor are we our bodies which aside from being renewed entirely every seven years, can have spare parts fitted from other people etc., We are not our thoughts, our feelings, emotions or opinions, all of which (see above!) can and do modify and change. Our character and personality are not necessarily immutable.
Eventually one has to concede that the only permanent and changeless “I” is the spirit. Just as you say!

Re: Should 16yr olds have the vote?
Other items on the agenda are education for our kids and grandkids; the opportunities of education in other European countries are being taken away. The EU Science Agencies will be lost to us and opportunities for our kids to work in the Sciences will go to other Europeans. Everyone goes on about money and taking back control (buzzwords) but little if anything will change apart from the rich getting even richer and education getting even more expensive. We were all doing ok in the EU, well at least I thought so; it had introduced legislation that had made my life safer and easier so I find it difficult to understand what else people want.

PS Thanks for having a conversation without the usual nastiness.

Re: Should 16yr olds have the vote?
I wish I understood politics as well as many members on this forum. My father & me did not see eye to eye & he was a staunch conservative so perhaps to spite him I voted labour when I became of age. Today I have a better understanding of his reasons but still stick with my decision
So my question is how should you vote having listened to all the proposals. Is it on the one single point that affects your life or should it be based
on the community at large
During my life I have experienced both parties in power & to be quite honest my life has not changed a lot

Interesting question but surely you should vote as your conscience dictates!
