I’m hearing more and more about security and the valu of a vpn.
My setup is a Router, a IPTV black box and a smart tv. Data streams from the router to the box wirelessly.
If I want to add a vpn, where does it ‘sit’ ?
Is it a piece of software to be uploaded somewhere?
What do I have to do to acquire one
Regards

My experience over the years and as I see it you really have two main options.
1. You could opt for a Smart DNS service where you must have admin authorisation on your router for you to enter the provided DNS address of the VPN service.
I used such a service for some years but then fell out of love with it, too many dropouts in service and the DNS address they use is obviously known to the "other" end and did used to get blocked and so made invalid.
2. For the last 5 years or so I simply use a VPN provider service which you install in the form of an app on each and all of the devices you wish to connect to the net with. This would be my recommendation to anyone. One potential upside is that if you install a VPN on your device when travelling or away from home and using public WIFI you can switch on the VPN and get protection, whereas if you only install on your home router you will not be able to use that same VPN without some fiddly experience in setup.
For what its worth my favourite these days is NordVPN, which i currently have on 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, a Macbookpro, an iMac and on occasion an old Apple TV.

I think the question was how would he install NordVPN on his IPTV box.

It would of course be remiss of me not to include an affiliate link to the Nord VPN website.
