I would have imagined that you know all about hot sulfurous gases in the realms you inhabit! Seriously, tho' I believe that dust is the engine-killer.
I have never forgotten the attached tale which I read in the 1980's recounting the event when a 747 lost all four engines after passing thro' a volcanic cloud, but the pilot kept cool and restarted the engines by sort- of bump-starting them quite close to sea-level.....
