Where was she coming from?Jim B wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 3:17 pm We invited our niece to come and stay with us and being a TCN we had to get her a Bank Guarantee which cost €850 plus a return ticket. It has cost her well over €300 for a visa plus expenses for DHL. She also had to show she had €5,000 in the bank which in this financial climate is not easy for a young girl to have.
She works on the Internet so we looked into extending her stay as she meets the criteria for an overseas earnings but we've been told she has to have €10,000 in a local bank even though we're only requesting an extended tourist visa.

Hi Wantoosoon,
There are so many unknown details for me to answer you properly, are you young? do you waste money on unnecessary thinks like expensive cars, new phones, sky tv etc at 32 years old I was redundant and had no money, I printed 5000 leaflets on my dot matrix printer and posted them through doors looking for work, I worked 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for 20 years before I could afford £23,000 to buy my first flat in Cyprus, I am now 68 and can afford most things I want and feel I deserve them but I would rather be 32 and broke. I could have sat at home claimed benefits and watched TV and to be honest I often wish I had as I didn't spend the time I would have liked watching my children grow, I missed sports days and days out to work, with hindsight I should have worked a little less but I know for sure if you want something you have to be willing to earn it.
Gary.

Re: More Requirements for Temporary Residence
It doesn't really matter where she's from, there's a table on the Civil Registry website that provides a list of countries and required Bank Guarantees. For example Canada, USA and Australia require €850 whereas the UAE and Gibralter require €350. The documentation and banking requirements are quoted by the Consular officials. We had to provide an Assumption of Responsibility document, Bank Guarantees and proof of property ownership (or rental agreement if you're renting)..WHL wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 3:36 pmWhere was she coming from?Jim B wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 3:17 pm We invited our niece to come and stay with us and being a TCN we had to get her a Bank Guarantee which cost €850 plus a return ticket. This is the ninth time she's visited and the requirements are much stricter, we've only ever had to provide an Assumption of Responsibility and a copy of our house purchase agreement.
You are correct about applying for Citizenship, I worry when they scrap the MU3 will we have to meet the new requirements, ie. a €350,000 property, 50 or 60K in the bank and a very large monthly income, the requirements being a lot higher than when I initially applied for Residency.
I remember when I first received my MU3 it had my status as divorced rather than Widower, even though it was Immigrations error they made me reapply for a new MU3 rather than issue a replacement. They can be quite stubborn when they want to be.

The reason I asked was because, we had a family wedding over here, and the brides best friend, is from Angola, and she wanted to attend, and the hoops they had to jump through for the lady to be able to come for a long weekend, made it impossible for her , just to add this lady doctor from Angola tours the World giving lectures in her specialist field of Medicine , yet she wasn't allowed to come here.Jim B wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 8:54 amIt doesn't really matter where she's from, there's a table on the Civil Registry website that provides a list of countries and required Bank Guarantees. Funnily enough it really depends on where one applies for a visa. We used to apply through.Moscow and never needed any of the requested documentation or Bank Guarantee but the Ukraine War has caused alot of application problems so Applicants are being directed to Tashkent in Uzbekistan Consulate where they follow the rules to the letter.
I find it strange that when Cyprus needs tourism the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are making it more difficult for them to get here.

But unfortunately if you have a British Passport, it doesn't apply to us.As GB is no longer an EU member. We are classified as 3rd world. Sadly. It seems that the UK rulings being a national thing are more generous. Plus GB may be looking for foreigners to do seasonal work?

Yes JimB.In my younger days i was a member of the Marketing Guild for many years. One of the golden rules when someone is to spend money for your service or product, make as EASY AS POSSIBLE for them to do so.Do not put any obstacles whatsoever in their way.
Re: More Requirements for Temporary Residence
Yes, the Uk is being more generous, but maybe it's because they have been short of seasonal workers from EU countries.

I know my wifes family go to Turkey, Egypt or the UAE for holidays rather than come here as the outlay is just too expensive. For a family of four the initial outlay is around €3,000 and that's before paying for flights which are also expensive.Dominic wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 2:32 pmWhat has this to do with tourism?Jim B wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 9:47 am WHL

Most countries trying to attract tourists generally try to make access easier, as said Cyprus appears to be making it more difficult and in my humble opinion that's what it has to do with tourism.
Re: More Requirements for Temporary Residence
Life is good.
We hope to extend our nieces 90 day visa to Temporary Residency which would provide her with a 12 month visa. she would ive at our place and that would be free accommodation. Gwenny said we would have to provide an affidavit confirming the fact she had free accommodation but she would also have to open a local bank account and deposit €10,000 into it. We'll look more into it when she arrives.
I brought four of our nieces here a couple of years ago and it was relatively inexpensive as we obtained their visas from Moscow and they flew through Kiev on Air Ukraine and those flights were very cheap, now with bank guarantees and the like being introduced I think it would be too expensive to do the same thing now so I personally believe it is affecting holiday tourism.

The vast, vast majority of tourists will be staying for two weeks or less.

Re: More Requirements for Temporary Residence
Yes but TCNs have to get visas and even if our niece came to Cyprus for 1;week we would still have to get an €850 Bank Guarantee. If we.brought 4 over we would have to lay out €4,400 weras before it cost around €840 plus airfares.
As said our family can get visas on entry in many countries so avoid the bother of coming to Cyprus as do many other tourists from countries that require Bank Guarantees to enter Cyprus.
Re: More Requirements for Temporary Residence
Yes I should have clarified that but some of the wealthiest countries in the world do require visas.
The information I provided is correct with regards to visa requirements
On the Cyprus Civil Registration and Migration website it shows of the 238 countries listed only 33 don't require a Bank Guarantee, even Citizens of the Russian Federation have to pay €350.
I'll leave it there, in the 20 years I've been here I've applied for well over 25 visa's and can only say from personal experience it's not getting any easier to get our family visa's though I'll defer.

Re: More Requirements for Temporary Residence
Searching the Immigration site today, I have only seen the existing rules for MEU1 's issued under the Withdrawal Agreement and the rules are the same. They do however mention some MEU1 's with expiry dates but most do not have them. Those with an expiry xould be obliged to apply for the cards on expiry.trevnhil wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 5:03 pm This is the first I have heard about the MEU1/3 becoming obsolete, and people 'HAVING' to apply for a different card.. From reading on the forums and the internet it is difficult to get an appointment now. Goodness knows what it will be like when we all HAVE to change to a new card.
Ticking away, the moments that make up a dull day.
Re: More Requirements for Temporary Residence
This link leads to a regulation to do with documents etc issued to EU citzens... doesnt appear to have a direct impact on residence documents of non EU citzens .. So no obvious direct impact on resiendence documents issued to UK nationals..
(the "What is the aim of the regulation?" makes that clear)

Re: More Requirements for Temporary Residence
The main reason that there may be a panic is perhaps twofold in the Paphos area. One is the overcrowding in the Immigration building and the stairway leading to the offices. And Two the apparent lack of appointments, even now before the masses try to change to the card.

Re: More Requirements for Temporary Residence
Life is Good - does your card have MEU3 & "Permanent Resident" on it & not MUKW that people post Brexit get?
