Supermarket Association promises 10% reduction in prices as of November

Post by memory man »

Speaking to Active radio on Monday, Andreas Hadjiadamou, executive secretary of the Cyprus Supermarket Association, said that as of next month, the supermarkets will reduce the prices of basic consumer goods by 10% to help households deal with inflation.

According to Hadjiadamou, prices compared to last year have increased by approximately 12% on average, stressing, however, that competition has kept prices from rising even higher.

Hadjiadamou urged consumers to keep in mind the special offers that supermarkets announce, as it is a way to save money, he said.

He finally said that there is room in the market for more supermarkets to open.

It has got very expensive recently. Is it true that a lot if milk sold as fresh here is in fact re constituted from milk powder? Some people think this is so.I wonder if there are actually enough cows kept on this island to supply a population (with milk) which in the Republic is nearly 1M,Ithink? If some at least of the milk is reconstituted , should it retain its previous price?

"Some people think this is so". Idle gossip or something more substantial? I ask because there does seem to be a network of idle gossip throughout the expat community here, which in the main tends to be very ill-informed. Do you remember a year or two ago when BOC were going to collapse, according to the rumour mill? That never happened. And don't get me started about all the theories that were bandied about during COVID. Some people swore blind that the safe pass was here to stay permanently, as part of a new world order.

So forgive me if I take unattributed quotes with a pinch of salt.
