Car insurance Europe

Post by Cornelia »

We have booked the new ferry from Limassol to Greece and then we will take the ferry to Italy. Now our insurance agent told us that our allrisk car insurance is only valid third party in Europe. We called several insurance companies and all the same only third party for Europe. A big risk for us. It is ridiculous of course, because in every country in Europe your car insurance is valid with the same conditions in whole Europe. Does anyone knows a solution?

We used the ferries twice when they were previously operating - a long time ago but we were insured by Atlantic at the time and from what I remember they covered us, so maybe worth asking them or just other local insurers, alternatively maybe the AA could point you in the right direction as we used to use them for cover in Europe when we lived in the UK even though they weren’t our insurers.

Enjoy your trip - I’m very envious we’re not in a position to use the ferries at the moment, the trips we made were fantastic!

Thanks, but we contact Atlantic and they don’t want to cover allrisk in Europe. We have tried many local insurers, but this is a new situation for them, traveling by car to Europe. Can you imagine that people with very expensive cars can only go with the ferry with a third party insurance? Hopefully something will change before we are going on holiday, though our car is not very expensive, but we don’t like to have a risk to have a very expensive holiday due to an accident.
