Even living in a first floor apartment with a locked door at the communal entrance isn't necessarily safe, having seen one person climb onto a balcony and on another occasion two different people used a ladder to gain access to two first floor apartments, albeit about 1-3 years ago. Hence we always lock every window/patio door whenever we go out and have extra security on our front door.

Sad but I remember when I came over to live here, you could leave the doors and windows open, having said that as a kid in London back in the day, we used to leave the door unlocked,
I have an alarm system on my house, and recently bought a CCtv system from Amazon UK, four cameras with night vision , audio, where you can speak to someone thru the camera, anywhere you might be in the world, the cameras have a spot light and an alarm build in, a sparky mate wired them up for me, the kit was about £400 , it is great to check up on your property when you are away etc, if the camera picks up on something it will alert you on youe phone tablet etc.

Please provide proof (I Said) sub Africans were responsible for burglarys, as cyprus mail says overcrowded jails with foreigners waiting to be returned.
today I helped an African chap who had no tools in his motor, changed his punctured Tyre, he even offered a few euros for help, I said no not wanted.

This link from October suggests that prison over crowding in Cyprus is partly due to an influx of Congolese.

Not one mention of any being in there for Burglaries , most for fake documentation.

He arrived this morning and fitted grille's to my windows. I'm very pleased with his service and would recommend him if anyone else is thinking along that line.

I used to work as a volunteer with our local Victim Support group in UK.
Women always felt vulnerable after the violation of some random stranger rifling through their personal items, especially the bedroom.
As well as the usual security advice etc the further information to move furniture around inside the home afterwards always produced a puzzled look - but it was a known fact that burglar's will often return to the same property based on the knowledge that various expensive household items and electronic equipment will have been replaced under an insurance claim.
Changing the layout doesn't stop them from returning but it makes their rerun a bit more complicated.
