Hunters protest against two photovoltaic parks

Post by Devil »

it is unacceptable to sacrifice our nature and our environment to the altar of money.
Being hunters, they noted, they are the biggest environmentalists

Excuse me, but I am recovering from a fit of apoplexy after learning how the great hunting community is really the largest environmentalist movement in Cyprus.

These nature lovers, besides being environmentalists, become twice-weekly noise generators, sometimes disturbing ones slumber. They then decorate the hills around us with masses of spent cartridges and, worse, hundreds, if not thousands, of kilograms of small metallic particles for birds from tiny sparrows to massive flamingos to ingest. And then, each pull of the trigger releases large volumes of carbon dioxide and, worse, nitrogen oxides to breathe in, similarly to the gases from their pickups that they use to take them to their field of bird carnage.

Where my house is it's about 100 yards from where the hunters shoot.
Not too long ago I was on the roof and found lead shot on the roof not a lot but it was there!
This is what I dislike about shot guns this stuff goes anywhere as it spreads out after being fired.
Yeah the twice a week alarm call you did not set.

If they want to be considered environmentalists they need to start clearing up all the crap they leave. Then consider clay pigeons as a green alternative to blowing the crap out of some poor creature.

And don't get me started on fishermen...

The worst thing about some hunters who were shooting illegally in a no hunting area, close to our house in Kamares was that not content with shooting at anything which flew, would also take a pot shot at a domestic cat or dog, if any pet was left outside in your garden.
We always had to keep our pets indoors until we were sure that the last pick up truck with some shivering poor hound inside the dog box on its flat bed, had left.
Then all that was left was the spent cartridges, shot and various bits of rubbish including fag ends which had been left behind.
Environmentalists? My foot! Sometimes late the same day, smoke would be rising from a hillside which heralded the start of another fire caused by a carelessly abandoned fag end..
