Cypriot voting cards.

Post by Chaddy »

We have just had letters off the Cypriot authorities saying that as we are now " third country nationals " we need to hand in our voting cards. No problem, has anyone else had this, and is it the result of brexit?

If they ever come knocking at my door asking why I haven't given them my voting card I will happily hand it over. But if they think I am going to sit in a queue in some municipal building just to hand over a bit of cardboard they are mistaken.

Hand it into the Mucktar's office or if you see him in the pub.

Yes, got the letters earlier this week, was expecting that as the loss of voting of rights was documented in the one of the Brexit related articles a couple of years ago. No more “vote for me “ taverna events now, the expat vote was quite key in a small village such as ours where votes are often done on family lines.

Yes, I had that letter too. Shame, as the pre-election shindigs were amusing and as Ian said, the expat vote was key in our small village.

I was surprised that the 'Mail Man' didn't get in last time we were voting. At least I think it was the last vote

Trev, he was only encouraged to stand in order to split the British vote and prevent the other non successful candidate from getting in. The art of politics ....

The UK and Cyprus could agree to reciprocal voting rights as has already been agreed with some other EU member states including Spain, Portugal, Luxembourg and Poland. Perhaps pressure on both governments could result in restoration of these rights. https://www.gov.uk/government/publicat ... -in-the-uk
