I worked on the new the new West Nile Delra Project at Idcut and refurbishment of an existing plant there. There was talk of piping gas from the Aphrodite' field to the Zohr field and then onshore to Idkut. Where there's plenty of process capacity.
Egyptians have no love for Turkey and favour Cyprus.
It would also save Cyprus billions of dollars building the infrastructure required to treat the gas. Prior to the massive offshore gas finds the plants at Idcut more or less stood idle.

Mouse was spot on, it goes back to the Ottoman Empire and how the Egyptians were treated.

Turkey supports the Muslim brotherhood, Egypt is very anti the muslim brotherhood, that is one of the main causes of friction , along with Turkeys expansion policy's in Libya and other north African countrys

Just bad blood between the two countries for centuries and as you say, the Muslim Brotherhood is another bone of contention. Both countries also look on themselves as the main player in the region.
