Marathounta Motorway - Before

Post by Dominic »

This film shows the route I drove to get to the Marathounta Wilderness. Well, it shows the route from it, to be precies, as I drove from the wilderness area to a church above Marathounta.

For those of you who like watching on your exercise bike. It is downhill most of the way until you get close to Marathounta. Then it is uphill.

For a map of the route:

Watching it from an arm chair & enjoyed it but I suspect it's not a tourist route. Quick story, I wanted to do the Akamas trail so hired a small car from G&K. All went well at the beginning & after many hours completed the the journey but there were some scary moments. Only read the small print later about liability for broken sumps etc. Will keep watching from the comfort of my arm chair until I get an invite to join you :)

I used to drive all over that area and some of the tracks are not for the faint hearted. I can cut across to Kolni from our place as theres a bridge at Agia Marouda that crosses the Motorway.
One wet and rainy day I went down a very steep hill sideways for about 100 metres, most of the way with my eyes closed.
