Super Duper League
Super Duper League
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the new Super League that is being set up. My team's invite got lost in the post. Will it signify the death of football, or is it just Market Forces at work?

I think the threat of being exiled from the Premiourship, will put the brakes on this nonsense.

Re: Super Duper League
All about money. Many clubs have serious problems in Corona times to survive. It is the desperation to get fresh money from a different concept which will destroy the football's tradition. Unlike English clubs there is no interest from German clubs to join, yet. I already don't like clubs where you cannot find any player from the area or country, instead five or more different nationalities try to play together. It will also affect amateur football in a big way negative. This threatens to turn away from the European sports system, which is still based on established structures, youth work and permeable leagues. Instead, as in the Premier League with numerous foreign owners, a franchise system like the one in the US professional leagues could finally emerge.
I still believe it will not happen as it would also mean the end of FIFA-UEFA and they will fight it until the end...

The reason why there is no interest by German clubs is because by German law, football clubs in Germany have fans that have 51% say in the running of the clubs, the sooner we have that law in England the better.cyprusmax47 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 4:15 pm All about money. Re: Super Duper League
When I think back over ten years ago was there not talk about a similar league set up.
That went no where at all!!!

It's the one thing that everyone seems to agree on, politicians included which must be fairly unique.. It's a bad idea and hopefully will go nowhere.

Re: Super Duper League
The biggest problem now is that the owners of the 6 involved are all foreign billionaires who dont give a flying fudge about football, its history or the fans.
Going back several years ago when the TV money was elevated to the level it’s at now, they could have given away the season tickets FOC and still have been good percentage better off! Less than a year ago, Liverpool for one, went cap in hand to the government for the furlough money!
I’d get rid of them from the premier league today, kick them out of the League, FA and European cup competitions and ban the players from international duty.
The FA really need to team up with BT (as an example) get moving quicker here with a Netflix style subscription package that will benefit the entire football pyramid.

All 6 English clubs have now pulled out of the proposed ESL and Woodward resigns from ManUre , wonder if the chairmen and chief executives of Arse-Nil, Chelski Ceety ,Tot-Tin-Ham and YNWA-Pool will resign as well.

Re: Super Duper League
I remain unclear why they are called "clubs". The clubs I am familiar with have members who elect the chairperson and officers (and dismiss where appropriate), attend the AGMs and scrutinise the accounts etc. I am not aware of professional so called football clubs that have this arrangement. Clearly they are football businesses who must, as all business are mandated to do, chase profit. I'm sure some of them see fans as a remnant of a legacy system where ticket money was important. Now, of course, media money calls the tune.
I like the sound of the German model described above.

Re: Super Duper League
The president of Real Madrid has been moaning about “how can he afford his €700m debt?” They have lived outside their means for decades and will bot accept working to budgets. Madrid City have bailed them out previously. Barca are the same.

Nine of the 12 clubs, which tried to form the Super League, are finally sanctioned by UEFA (mild, but still !)
