How the Media Control your View and Opinion

Post by Jimgward »

As an example, most UK papers showed the picture below - and stated how alone the Queen was in the Chapel;

This was as the rest were coming into the Chapel - the Queen arrived first…

The service had it like this;

Now it isn’t good that separation, at such times as a funeral, or indeed the limit of 30 people, but the media needs to be honest with their presentation of facts.

Your not suggesting that they would distort the facts to get a better story are you ? Your thinking of the "News of the World" days - It doesn't happen now - Does It ?

This is hardly news.

I remember when the Commons was first televised. You would have politicians huddled together to make it look like the person speaking and being filmed was in a packed room.

And anyway. The event was televised, so people will know what actually went on.

Maybe to some, but far too many are taken in by biased reporting of more serious facts - which is why reading of multiple sources has become so much easier and can help prevent some of us forming wrong opinions.

Murdoch is probably the worst example and his new UK news venture, much like Fox News, will con many.

I remember a survey was completed on people in the USA who never watched news programs, versus those who only watched Fox News, and they found that the Fox viewers knew less about world affairs and politics than the others!

We were informed in advance that 30 people would be allowed to attend the actual service and their names were publicly announced, so why would anyone think she was in there alone?

I've seen so many posts showing that one image and comments on social media from people who clearly should have known better.

This is no different than anyone else who is attending a funeral service. It's a bad time for every single person who has lost their long term partner or family member.
Can you imagine if she had been shown with someone sitting with her?

I've avoided the whole thing as best as possible but still I'm seeing headlines on the "he said, she said" triangle involving the two brothers.

Really, families fall out and sometimes they never make up. You can choose your friends but there's no choice when it comes to family.

It's time the whole shebang was put to bed now.

Good post mouse,we must remember that newspaper editors and journalists are only human as we are.The editors job is to flog newspapers.

Absolutely – and they don't hesitate to distort the truth in order to do so. :twisted: :twisted:

I don’t see the need for newspapers these days as breaking news is plastered all over social media and then printed the following day? Even the online versions are just click bait.

I quite happily read the online edition of a newspaper to keep up to date

I read a paper newspaper every day. The Cyprus Mail. I don't see the need to read a British paper when I live here, and their news is irrelevant to me. Neither do I watch TV news.

It is only since I left the UK that I have come to realise that all the UK media distorts the news to increase their revenue. It's the same elsewhere of course, but I was brought up to believe the British media, and the BBC in particular, was above such things.

An example might be the coverage of Afghanistan. I'm sure everyone has a view of what life is like there, particularly that of women. However, most of us have never been there. We may therefore be surprised to see this group of women.
It's the Afghanistan national women's rugby team.
