Russia has allegedly tried to jam signals in an act of electronic warfare against British aircraft taking off from RAF Akrotiri, outside Limassol, UK media reports claim.
Military intelligence sources said a “hostile state” had regularly attempted to interfere with the A400M transport aircraft’s satellite communications, leaving RAF Akrotiri while troops were on board.
UK newspapers The Times and The Daily Telegraph both carried the story.
The attacks could have prevented the pilot from knowing where the aircraft was or the direction it was flying in and potentially resulted in casualties.
None of the attempts was successful.

Russia ‘jamming’ RAF jets over Cyprus
Re: Russia ‘jamming’ RAF jets over Cyprus
Proberbly some spotty nerd hacker kid, sitting in his bedroom.
Re: Russia ‘jamming’ RAF jets over Cyprus
Provided that flight had good visibility ( which it would if it had taken off!) the pilots would have good visual sight of their surrounding terrain.
I am fairly confident that RAF pilots, who are more comprehensively trained than most civilian pilots are would cope with such a situation.
These days the British services have some very sophisticated equipment to assist them.

Re: Russia ‘jamming’ RAF jets over Cyprus
It's more likely Russians operating in Cyprus.
Our son who works for HM Government (in a special capacity) has told us that Russian specialists operating in Cyprus pay very close attention to all the activities carried on the British bases. it's just as likely to be them. The British and the Americans monitor and track their activities. Similarly all Russian activity in Syria is tracked.

Quite true, Alewfin. The least said about this the better, I think.
