What happened to virus test machine’s at airports?
What happened to virus test machine’s at airports?
I thought Cyprus bought a lot of expensive test machine’s to use at the airports ?
Someone I know came over from the U.K. 2 weeks ago , medical staff at the airport took swabs and allowed him through . He received the negative result by text 24 hrs latter .
If this is how Cyprus is doing it no wonder cases are increasing . People from abroad can spread the virus to a lot of people in the 24 hrs before the result of the test is known .

I've no idea about the machines, but arrivals MUST (IMHO) self isolate until they have received clearance following their swab test results.

I agree, but how would this be policed?mike strand2 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 9:28 am I've no idea about the machines, but arrivals MUST (IMHO) self isolate until they have received clearance following their swab test results.
If you never ask the question, the answer will always be....no

In the same way as it's policed now for repatriated folk! Problem is, it's not being policed properly; (No surprise there I guess). Maybe the 'fine' of €500 plus deportation might stop some idiots wanting to hit the bars as soon as they arrive!Sadie wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 9:32 amI agree, but how would this be policed?mike strand2 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 9:28 am I've no idea about the machines, but arrivals MUST (IMHO) self isolate until they have received clearance following their swab test results.

With regard to Ex Pats who have been returning during the last few months, I certainly know some that did not fully self isolate.. When you have been away from your home for a lengthy period you need to go out for food... How else are you expected to survive..

Exactly! But hopefully they would at least wear a mask and maybe gloves when out shopping.
.I hope that tourists are also being told about this requirement too!

Cyprus has bought some expensive machines fairly recently, but those were to enable passengers to check in on line for their flights supposedly quicker. That's when they are working! But I haven't heard about 'test machines. Isn't the virus testing at the airports carried out by staff from the health department?
I am surprised if any passengers who are being tested aren't told to go to their accommodation or homes as appropriate. Otherwise, they would be taken to one of the Govt's quarantine hotels. They will know that they should expect to get their test results shortly.

I don't think there are any "Quarantine hotels" now.

When we flew into Larnaca on 20 July, we were tested and allowed to leave. Results (negative) were sent to us by text a few hours later. No one (including the text message) told us to self-isolate, but our FlightPass stated that requirement, as other people on this Forum have pointed out.

Mny thanks. I will keep a watch on this as I am keen to see if anyone has problems at the airports!

I think after initial hiccups it seems to be running a bit more smoothly now.
