Coronavirus: Vaccinations will be mandatory says minister

Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou reconfirmed on Monday that Cyprus is set for 1.2m doses of coronavirus vaccinations when they are available and that each person will have to be vaccinated.

Interviewed on ANT1 on Monday, Ioannou was asked whether the vaccination will be mandatory – to which he replied simply: “yes.”

Asked whether a person will be able to decline the vaccination, he said that it will not be an option to do so.

No Lloyd, Cyprus are NOT doing things the right way.
Article 6 of the United Nations Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights:

Any preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic medical intervention is only to be carried out with the prior, free and informed consent of the person concerned, based on adequate information. The consent should, where appropriate, be express and may be withdrawn by the person concerned at any time and for any reason without disadvantage or prejudice.

If you read all the article it suggests that once 70% of the population are vaccinated then it is basically a done job anyway. I can understand why people with dodgy immune systems (like Lincoln) wouldn't necessarily want them. Our daughter has a reduced immune system, and was only given the first half of the swine flu (or bird flu, whatever one it was) vaccine. She reacted so badly to it they didn't bother with the second half. So she won't be getting any vaccine unless we are absolutely sure about it. I will have it though, and I think anybody who hasn't got a compromised immune system has a duty to get it done, if offered. Anti-vaxxers should just go and live on their own island.

There is absolutely no way that this is legal. It contravenes the Constitution, it contravenes EU law on Human Rights, it contravenes the United Nations Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights.

So in conclusion, this is a non story. It will not and cannot happen!

I shall have the vaccine when offered it, plus the flu jab which will probably also be offered.
It seems a nobrainer to me as I have a friend who’s in his late 60’s/ or early70’s who caught Covid while travelling last winter who had it so badly that he was very lucky to survive. Incidentally, previously, he was fit and active.
It is a personal decision, but I think that extra protection is essential if one has any hope of being able travel in the future.

These are only my own thoughts, but I wonder how many are thinking on similar lines...
At the moment many people have the flu jab each winter and some complain of flu type symptoms a day or two afterwards.
Now the Covid virus would seem to be a stronger infection than flue.
So if I have an vaccination against the Covid virus.... Am I likely to have some bad reaction from it ??

As far as I am aware and with only reference to the Oxford vaccine trials that are ongoing, the main reaction to it has been a slight but temporary inflammation around the point of entry.

I dont think they can make people have that test. but I think the majority will be for it.

Vaccines normally take 3-5 years of testing in order to identify any medium to long term side effects. I certainly would not take a vaccine that has been rushed through without the relevant testing periods.

I just wonder if there's any point in having the vaccine, the Corona Virus has been around for ages, this Corvid 19 is presumably a mutation of that virus, so if it mutates again, the vaccine wouldn't be effective anyway.

But, all these prototype vaccines will be or are already going through a 3 stage compulsory testing regime. When a drug has completed the third trial where it will be tested on a large number of volunteers a lot more will be known about how it works. This will also include any reported side effects. Above all nothing will be released to GP's unless it has proved to be both very effective as well as safe in its trials. There will presumeably be some caveats about the type and age of suitable recipients. Ie is it safe for people with specified health conditions, for children from what age, and for elderly and geriatric patients. I have read anecdotal mentions that the Oxford vaccine is one which is highly regarded and very promising,

But at the moment its wait and see what happens. Like any drug or vaccine I'm sure it won't be compulsory to have it, just as the flu vaccine isn't.
People who want to continue In self isolation or shielding indefinitely will be able to.

...... a retired doctor friend in the UK who has the same opinion. He told me that Boris Johnson, who publicly had the flu jab about October 2019 and then went on to have Covid19 so seriously that he almost died, would probably not have been so ill from Covid19 if he had not had the flu jab which likely caused a massive surge in his immune system.
That's good enough for me, a professional opinion (not conspiracy theory!)

I have underlined above what I think. All doctors have an opinion about many illnesses and that's all it is, AN OPINION. Doctors frequently do not agree about which treatment is best. Go ask my daughter who had a little persistent cough. Initially diagnosed as a thymoma, which was overturned following tests and confirmed as a lymphoblastic lymphoma for which she received rigorous chemotherapy and in the process suffered all sorts of nasty side effects; without achieving the required reduction in the lymphoma! A further biopsy was then performed, which in the process punctured a lung! The doctors then changed their diagnosis back to a thymoma. This was then removed by surgery. She has recovered well and will continue to receive regular checkups.

No conspiracy theory, just doctors making a wrong and then eventually, a right diagnosis! There are good doctors and not so good doctors. They are not God!

I would prefer to listen to the opinions of younger, working doctors more up to date with the latest science.

I have many opinions on network management. However, the last time I managed a big network was before the advent of readily available wifi technology, so my opinion on modern network security would not be as valid as a younger person still actively employed in the field.

If you have been following what has been reported over the last months, because of the trauma and the higher than normal loss of life caused by people contracting the Covid virus, all over the world huge sums of money have been invested in trying to find one or more vaccines which can give protection and immunity from this virus. So Labs in many countries have been working against all odds to develop vaccines. Hence work on this has been greatly accelerated, hence Several different vaccines are being developed in countries around the world. The best ones are being given exhaustive testing now.
