The Paphos Municipality has concluded an architectural competition for its planned 32,000 m2 ‘Park of Colours’ that will comprise sporting grounds, a children’s playground and a botanical garden.

The construction plans and the terms of the construction tenders of the 2.4 million euro project will be finalised in the coming days with the aim to start building works in the coming months.

The park will reportedly also include squares, hundreds of trees, a cafeteria, a tennis court, a basketball court, a small football court, locker rooms, a climbing wall, a skatepark and an outdoor exhibition space.

According to insider information, the park will be the largest in Paphos and one of the largest on the island.

My guess, and it is only a guess, is that it will be near where that Chinese Park went, purely because there is so much space there.

If not, it will be the land near the new Police Station, possibly? I know there was talk of a park going in there a while back.

According to the map that the mayor issued on Facebook, it is currently the large wasteland behind Paps in the old town. A revamp of that area is long overdue.

At this time of year these parks may be welcome but there has to be lots of shade for them to be used year round. I travel regularly around Paphos and past the new Moutallos park and the Chinese park. Never have I seen anyone in either. Many parks that have been around in Paphos for many years are unused. The town hall (now dug up) and Dasouthi near Lidl in town are the only ones really used regularly. The new linear parks are a wonderful concept and I hope they get used. In contrast, I wish the municipality would give at least some thought to tourism. As a regular walker along the coast - there are some filthy areas (reported), the seaweed piled up has reached monumental proportions and it all looks a bit tacky and badly kept. I tried to use 2 public loos last week and both were locked. I just feel the priorities are misplaced sometimes.

As josef k states, the new Park of Colours will be behind Paps.
Many thanks.

These new parks sound ambitious. I also hope that there will be plenty of shade and hopefully some grass. Concrete and tarmac are both hard and hot to walk on in the summer.
