I needed a couple of pairs of spec's this week as I need to have an eye-test for Driving licence renewal soon, one was my own frame that just needed the new lens's of my prescription and the other of ordinary plastic frames, really surprised at the cost, €500's I remember the first ten years of living on Cy glasses and dental treatment was so much cheaper than the UK, times have changed not for the better either..
I use a well known Optician many here use, maybe look around the next time.
I bought some Oakley sunglasses at Manchester airport €120, took them to Kyrsof opticians at Kennedy square and had Nikon prescription photochromic lenses put in them for €160, could of had cheaper lenses at €100, really pleased.
Jim I am sure I know the Guy you used for new glasses, on the corner.
For many years now after some disasters with opticians, we have used Panicos at Eye Contact, on the Tomb of the Kings Road.. He has also helped us in recommending a Gentleman eye specialist in Paphos just across from the Evangelismos..
Jim, I always use Elean in Makarios Ave, have had numerous special lenses made and bought new frames occasionally, but I reckon that she is much more reasonable that the place that you went to. Might be worth speaking to her.
Dee I have used this optician many times in the past, but thank you.Again Lloyd I have used this branch of opticians also, same name I think in that one it is her husband.
Uncle D yes glasses and that way of buying them is a good idea, but I have never left the island since we arrived, the wife goes to Spec-savers when in the UK. I see a regular advert on TV about a company selling very cheap frames and put your prescription lens's in those, maybe look into this, It seems the Cypriot Opticians fail to see the logic of there over priced business, many tourist when we arrived used to use Opticians here while on holidays they do not now, because of overpricing. shame for us shame for visitors.

You've used a few over the years Jim; didn't you used to rave about the one next to the 'old' Post Office in Paphos? I tried it once and had a bad experience there, so never again.
They have long gone but the service I had was OK Lloyd and I would not say rave about them! do not think that was the case, I guess many of us have had some problems with all opticians over the years, I do not like being overcharged personally and I feel this time I was, so anyone know of a decent opticians that does not rip you off.....please.
We always used George’s Optical & did so even when visiting on holiday but as Jim says the prices have gone up considerably over here. We now go to Specsavers when in UK. Excellent service & about a third or more cheaper.

We use Elean and are very happy with Arestis down at the harbour.
I am not only a friend of Mr. Arestis, owner of Elean shops, but also customer since more than 10 years. I had countless eye tests with him and his recommendations where to treat my eye problems (cataracts) were priceless. Every time I got a excellent deal after a coffee and a talk....
By the way: Elean is one of the sponsors here on PaphosLife and without sponsors it would be very difficult for Dominic to run his sites so successful, spending most of his time on many subjects which are interesting and informative for all of us...
